Fresh Major Service, September 2010. Just 16,000 Miles From New.
1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello
VIN: ZFFZR49A1V0109012
Rosso Corsa with Tan Leather
Introduced as the flagship of the Ferrari line in 1996, the Maranello replaced a long line of mid-engined cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and was continued by the Testarossa. Meant to recapture the glory days of Ferrari`s legendary front-engined sports cars (most notably the 275GTB and 365GTB/4 Daytona), the Maranello is an indisputably beautiful car. The Pininfarina styling is masculine and muscular without being overstated or macho and the proportions are spot-on. Motivated by a 485hp iteration of Ferrari`s V-12 that transmits power through a 6-speed manual transaxle, the car is both fast and balanced.
This particular example was sold new by Ferrari of Denver, Colorado to Richard Stanley of El Paso, Texas in June of 1997. A 5,000 mile service was performed in January of 1999 at Ferrari of Denver on Mr. Stanley’s behalf prior to the car being sold to the second owner at 6,119 miles. At 9,100 miles the car received a complete major service at Ferrari of Washington. Around this same time other works were also performed, including the installation of new tires, various recalls and adjustments performed, along with scheduled maintenance. Most recently, a fresh major service was performed by Brian Crall Company, Inc. in San Ramon in September of 2010, at 15,210 miles. Today the car has just 16,414 miles. We have records in the file outlining all work mentioned above, as well as a clean Carfax.
The car makes a strong impression, and is generally very nice, although there are a handful of unavoidable rock chips and minor paint imperfections resulting from 15,000 miles of normal road use. The front bumper has been repainted at some point, and the spoiler has no significant scraping. The wheels, glass, and emblems, are all in very good order.
The interior is also very presentable. The dash has been recovered by the Ferrari dealer and accordingly, is free of the sun-shrink related pulling and deforming common to Ferraris of this era. The center console and window switches- which tend to develop a sticky feel, have also been recently reconditioned on this car and are in excellent shape. The driver’s seat shows light wear in keeping with 15,000 miles normal use. Carpets are in great shape, as are the door panels and headliner. Some of console fascia has become sticky as is often the case with many Maranello and other cars built using this interior finish.
The engine bay and underside are largely unchanged from new, and require no work at this time.
With the car comes the factory tools, cover, records for work mentioned above, the complete manual pack, and performance enhancing exhaust resonator by-passes/ Also present are both keys, and all three remotes.
This particular car should appeal to the Ferrari enthusiast looking for a lower mileage example that can be comfortably used and enjoyed as a daily driver. While not a perfect example cosmetically, it is a no-stories car that has been well cared, and remains complete with all original delivery equipment. Moreover, with over $100,000 in depreciation already out of the way, its future owner can be sure that the car is a both a rationally and emotionally attractive proposition.
