Description

1997 Porsche 993 Carrera Coupe
VIN WP0CA2993VS341413, Engine no. *64V0
Guards Red with Cashmere Leather Interior

An instant classic, the 993 generation of the Porsche 911 is now highly sought after. As the last of the air-cooled 911s, they are the most developed of the original formula that first appeared in 1963. The layout of the instruments, the sheetmetal of the door, and the entire greenhouse is fundamentally unchanged from the original 911, and these cars have a feeling of solidity and craftsmanship that was not only missing from the 996 generation that replaced the 993, but is missing from almost every car made in the last 20 years.

Yet despite this old-world craftsmanship and the occasional sign that the fundamental architecture dates back to the 1960s, the 993 is impressively modern, even 25 years after its introduction. The sophisticated multilink rear suspension and massive rear tires make the rear placement of the engine a non-issue, while the twin plug 3.6 liter flat-6 is a torquey high-performance unit that is both tractable and full of character. The brakes, always a Porsche strong suit, are superb, and the gearbox is Porsche's robust 6-speed G50 unit. Sophisticated and high performing but also capturing the essence of the original 911, the 993 is the best of both worlds. 993s are true classics that can be driven and enjoyed daily in modern traffic.

The 993 was available in a variety of forms, with naturally-aspirated and turbocharged engines, rear and four wheel drive, tiptronic or manual transmissions, wide and narrow bodies, and in open and closed forms. The 993 was available in a variety of forms, with naturally-aspirated and turbocharged engines, rear and four wheel drive, wide and narrow bodies, and in open and closed forms. The Carrera Cabriolet offers the dynamic purity of the rear wheel drive platform with the thrill of open air motoring, and in this case, the joy of shifting Porsche’s wonderful 6-speed manual transaxle.

According to owner’s records and service documentation, this Porsche was originally delivered and titled in Lawrence, MA July 25, 1997. The car was retained by its first owner until 2002 when it at 6,300 miles, at which point the second owner in Farmington, CT purchased it. On April 19, 2006, the third owner purchased and registered the car in Moultonborough, NH, reporting 18,710 miles. The forth owner retained the car until 2015, selling it to the current owner on the West Coast. All owners have kept careful track of the services in support of the current 42,529 miles. Regular oil changes, tire replacement, and 30k service has been performed along with several other general service items in order to maintain the car to a very high standard. The power seat cables were replaced on the right seat, a right window switch was replaced, four new tires installed in 2013 with 34,385 miles, and a faulty electronic convertible top control module replaced. Other than a light 1” scratch on the hood, which was carefully blended, the factory original body and Guards Red paint has been protected with an XPEL clear mask on the bumper, 1/3 of the hood, fenders, headlights, door handle wells, mirrors and door edges.

According to the factory window sticker included with the car, this Porsche Carrera Cabriolet was optioned with the following features:
17” Wheels with Cup Design Rims
Rim Caps (4) with Porsche Crest
Power Seat Package
Torque Limited Slip with ABD
AM/FM Radio with CD Player
Porsche Floor Mats - Cashmere

Today, this Porsche Cabriolet presents beautifully with original factory Guards Red paint that has been exceptionally well preserved and remains glossy throughout. The protective XPEL clear bra has done a very good job protecting the paint but is also in very nice condition with no edge decay or yellowing. This wonderfully maintained Porsche has very mild evidence of road use, very little if which appears on the lower body surfaces and front air dam only. The excellent factory door, trunk, and hood all open and shut exceptionally well, retaining factory panel gaps in all areas. Panel fit along the front and rear bumpers is also very nice, further supported by superb trim, excellent lenses, and original factory glass throughout the car. The optional 17” wheels are in very fine condition with no curb rash and beautiful silver finish accenting the Guards Red body while featuring the Porsche color crests adorning the wheel center caps. The overall look and feel of this car is all the more dramatic, when the black canvas top is lowered to reveal the beautifully preserved cashmere leather interior. When the convertible top is in place, it parks snuggly against the windshield header with taut seams, snappy fit, clear rear window, nicely preserved headliner, and beautiful exterior stitch lines.

The original interior shows virtually no wear, featuring excellent leather seats and distinctive Porsche factory finishes throughout the interior. The door panels, including sculpted armrests and door pocket lids are all in very nice condition, again essentially as new, with supple material feel throughout. The center console features the original CDR220 radio and 6-speed gearshift; a legendary and increasingly rare hallmark of late model Porsche performance cars. The carpeting is in very good condition, while the optional floor mats remain in very nice condition as well. The dashboard, gorgeous instruments, steering wheel, and center console are all in near new condition with all switches operating as expected. The sun visors, rear seating, and side panels are all uniformly crisp and near new in their presentation. The overall fit and finish of the interior is fresh, cohesive, and exhibits all the traits of a properly maintained and carefully enjoyed car.

The engine compartment and trunk are both unmodified and in extraordinarily nice condition. The original engine is absolutely correct and properly maintained offering more torque and power than the early 993 motors thanks to the addition of Varioram for the 1996 model year. The trunk is, once again, as new, offering exceptionally fine original materials, like new carpet liner, and factory finishes including the collapsible spare tire (never used), proper black molded components, factory treated metal parts, and correct hardware. The VIN sticker and paint code stickers are both still in place.

The car starts instantly and the clutch and gearbox work in perfect harmony, owing in part to the careful and constant care that has been afforded on this exceptional car. The motor provides a wonderful induction roar and the performance is genuinely remarkable, especially when the top is lowered and the windows down. Owing to the impressive aerodynamic engineering and folding rear wind block, even at highway speeds the wind noise and buffeting is pleasantly mild. The suspension responds much in the tradition of the 911 but with greater assurance due to better grip and composure, while the brakes offer a firm pedal and remain some the easiest to modulate and most intuitive ever fitted to a roadcar. The chassis is composed, tight, and authentic. Inspecting the underside of the car reveals no evidence of structural compromise, showing clean, dry, original components, and all correct underbody panels installed per factory specifications.

The car comes with a complete set of factory books, owner’s manual, original keys, service manual, the factory compressor and correct case, tool roll with tools, and factory jack. Documentation includes the original window sticker and various service invoices showing dates and mileage. For anyone seeking a stunning performance cabriolet of captivating lineage, this exceptional car will please even the most particular enthusiast.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a low mileage, well-maintained and handsome Porsche Carrera Cabriolet. Finished in stunning Guards Red with exceptional cosmetics, this Porsche 911 Carrera is ready for enjoyable driving, showing, or simply admiring as the last of the great air-cooled engineering marvels of the 20th century.
