Conceived as a modern day Cobra, the Dodge Viper is a genuine American sports car with the competition laurels to prove it. Initially available only as an open car, it was a raw machine with no airbags, ABS, traction control, or air conditioning. Even glass side windows and a proper soft top were omitted, and the car was available with an emergency top and side curtains. The 8.0 liter V10 engine produced 400hp, while the massive tires provided exceptional grip, with the car capable of nearly 1.0g of lateral acceleration. The dramatic styling, side exhaust, and snake-based nomenclature unambiguously recalled the Cobra, as did the boisterous and raw character of the car. A closed version appeared several years later, which was meaningfully improved in several ways. The cars were more completely equipped with power windows, air conditioning, airbags, and a CD player, while the chassis was significantly revised to reduce weight. The styling recalled the Daytona Cobra, and dramatically improved aerodynamics and structural rigidity. The cylinder heads, cams, and exhaust system were revised to increase power output to 450hp.

The Viper GTS-R, the racing variant of the car, was co-developed Oreca and Reynard, and had an illustrious and successful career in international motorsports, including dominance in FIA GT, ALMS including sweeping class championships in FIA in 1998 and 1999 and Le Mans class wins in 1998, 1999, and 2000.

This particular car is an excellent original and unmodified example has covered less than 15,700 miles from new. It has spent its whole life in the dry Western climates of Colorado, Montana, and Arizona. Its current owner has had the car for about three years, where it has been part of a sizeable collection of classic cars and covered approximately 15,000 miles.

The car is in excellent condition with virtually no cosmetic wear. The front of the car and side mirrors are protected by clear bra so there are no significant paint blemishes to speak of, other than some marks on the underside of the front spoiler. The wheels are in excellent condition with no curb rash while the trim and lights are similarly nice. There are a few small marks on the windscreen from road use, including one small superficial chip at the top.

The interior shows almost no wear as well, with excellent leather, including the driver’s seat bolster. The dashboard, controls, and instruments are all like new, as are the carpets. There are no modifications or alterations. The rear compartment is similarly unmodified and clean in appearance. The engine is also unmodified and is extremely clean.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a very clean, low mileage Viper GTS with no modifications or stories. It has a clean Carfax and has no needs. The car is ready to enjoy and is complete with books and operating tips VHS. The car has had dealer retrofitted cruise control installed at considerable expense.
