Description

2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello
VIN: ZFFBV55A620129485
Grigio Alloy with Charcoal Leather with Grey Piping

Introduced as the flagship of the Ferrari line, the Maranello replaced a long line of mid-engined cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and was continued by the Testarossa. Meant to recapture the glory days of Ferrari’s legendary front-engined sports cars (most notably the 275GTB and 365GTB/4 Daytona), the Maranello is an indisputably beautiful car. The Pininfarina styling is masculine and muscular without being overstated or excessively macho, and the proportions are spot-on. Originally introduced as the 550, the 575 replaced it in 2002, and brought a host of improvements in terms of styling and on the mechanical side as well. These included increasing the power to 515hp, larger brakes, improved aerodynamics, and many other minor changes.

This particular example is one of very few 575M Maranellos fitted with the 6-speed manual transaxle, and was sold new through Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro, North Carolina to Mr. H. W. Sherrill. Mr. Sherrill optioned the car with power Daytona seats, contrasting stitching, leather headliner, 6 disc CD changer, shields, silver painted brake calipers, and one piece wheels. During the initial ownership period, the sometimes troublesome cooling hoses under the intake manifold were replaced under warranty at Foreign Cars Italia, who also performed a belt service at that same time (November 25th, 2005, at 6,190 miles). Not long after the major service, this 575M was sold to Lowell Strauss, a Northern California resident, whom had the selling dealer install the desirable Fiorano handling package- an absolute must for 575s. More recently, Mr. Strauss had the annual service completed by Ferrari of San Francisco in February of 2008. Fantasy Junction had the pleasure of transacting this car to its third owner, whom purchased this Maranello with part of the proceeds from the sale of his alloy bodied 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB in May of 2008 with just 12,500 miles logged. Today, the car shows 15,643 miles, and remains stunning in every respect. Included with the car are the factory tools, tire inflator, books including warranty card and holder, Ferrari cover, and service records back to 2003.

This 575M Maranello is a no-stories car in excellent condition, with just light cosmetic wear in the form of a few chips and marks on the frontal area, in keeping with its 15,000 miles. We are not aware of any paintwork whatsoever. There is no curb rash to the wheels, or parking lot dings or scratches. The window glass and rubber trim pieces are all in very good order, and original.

The interior is extremely nice, with only minimal wear to the driver’s bolster. The leather is outstanding throughout, which covers just about every surface (headliner, pillars, visors, dashboard, center console, door panels). The dash shows no signs of shrinkage, and the center console is free of the curious rippling that sometimes affects contemporary Ferraris and this car has clearly never been molested.

The engine compartment and trunk are both extremely clean, with nothing untoward to report on this like-new car. The engine compartment is completely clean and dry, and the trunk is excellent, revealing the CD changer, original compressor, tool set, and manual pack in leather holder. The underside is mostly covered, in the interest of aerodynamics, with all the plastic under trays in outstanding, undamaged order. There is no evidence of accidents or paintwork.

This is an extraordinarily appealing example of this attractive model. It’s beautiful and stately color combination, excellent cosmetic condition, and rare 6-speed manual configuration make this car very desirable to the discerning Ferrari enthusiast. We find the 550 and even more so, the 575 Maranellos, to be the single modern Ferrari series with appreciating values, making this example both a rationally and emotionally appealing proposition.
