This like-new, aluminum bodied, aluminum block 427 Cobra replica by Kirkham is absolutely as correct a copy as any buyer could hope to find. In fact, with every conceivable performance option from the Tremec 5-speed transmission and Kirkham Salisbury replica differential, to the Ford Motorsport 427 engine, bored and stroked to 482 c.i. making just under 600hp! Aesthetically, the car is impressively close to an original; with Autometer gauges correct in period appearance, Connelly leather, Wilton wool carpets, wood rimmed steering wheel, stainless roll bar, outside fuel filler, side pipes, Trego (Halibrand replica) knock off wheels, and period style good year tires. This example is registered as a special construction vehicle, has been SB 100 approved, and is smog exempt in California.

The car was built in 2005 and has logged just 1,589 miles since. The body has never suffered any damage and is indistinguishable in proportions to an original Cobra. The paintwork is of extremely high quality base/clear coat, and is without a single major chip or flaw. All the frontal facing areas are protected by an invisible clear bra. The wheel arches have foam inlays to protect the fenders from inner rock chips. All the lenses, emblems, birghtwork, and wheels are all like new.

The interior is also basically new, with soft Connelly leather, and English Wilton wool carpets with protective inlays. The dash and door panels are both like new.

The engine bay and underside are both immaculate.

Mechanically, the car is fantastic and excuse free. The motor is an alloy Genesis casting of a Ford Motorsport side oiler block. The motor was bored and stroked to 482 c.i. The heads were redone, a 9 quart pan added, as was a Holley 850 double pumper carburetor. The Tremec TKO 600 5 speed is mounted to the aluminum flywheel and pressure plate, which feeds power to the Kirkham (Salisbury reproduction) differential with a 354 rear end ratio. A McCloud scatter shield is fitted. Weighing just 2100 lbs, with 600 hp, brakes are also important! This example is fitted with Wilwood 4-piston calipers with double wide slotted rotors giving this replica considerably more stopping ability than the original 427s. The car is aptly balanced by Penske adjustable shocks on all four corners. Recent work by Bob Slade includes the Kirkham recommended front suspension pickup point re-enforcements, updated flexible exhaust hangers, a complete suspension alignment including bump steer and ride height set up, and a general electrical system simplification. Oil leaks were also addressed, cam shafts re-fitted, and the motor given a clean bill of health.

With the market values of real 427 Cobra soaring to insane levels where the cars can no longer be enjoyed with a clear mind, high quality aluminum replicas are fast becoming an accepted, intelligent alternative to the real thing. Indeed, the driving experience is basically indistinguishable. This car is no toy. It is very impressive in both build quality and performance, and will need to be greatly respected and handled maturely.
