One hundred years after Henry Ford launched his then fledgling car company, those attending the 2003 Detroit Auto Show were stunned by the appearance of the all-new GT40 Concept car. Penned by Camilo Pardo, then head of the “Legends” studio, no one in the industry believed the concept would ever see production. Yet Ford shocked the public once again with the announcement that indeed, production would begin in 2004 with models delivered through 2005. In a matter of months, demand far exceeded supply as the public realized the competitively priced Ford GT was capable of besting many of the more expensive contemporary exotics – all while being far more reliable and far less costly to maintain. Roughly 4000 of these amazing cars were produced in the two-year period before production ceased. Only four options were available: a McIntosh sound system, Racing Stripes, Painted Brake Calipers, and Forged Alloy Wheels.

In addition to the amazing design, the Ford GT featured a number of innovative technologies including a superplastic formed frame, aluminum formed body panels, roll bonded floors, magnesium center console, and a dizzying array of hyper-technology manufacturing processes that allowed the use of composite materials and bonding technology to deliver a rigid yet lightweight frame, capable of meeting modern safety requirements. Unique technology did not stop at the chassis as the mid-mounted 5.4 liter Ford Modular dual overhead cam V8 engine was equipped with a Twin Screw Supercharger all mated to a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission. Potent and capable, the Ford GT delivered in every performance aspect with 0-60 3.3 second times, quarter mile in 11.4 seconds, and top speed over 205mph.

This beautiful 2005 Ford GT was delivered from the factory with all four of the available options, including the beautiful blue racing stripes. Assembled at the Wixom factory plant, this car is #1890 of just 2022 cars built in 2005 and #488 of only 504 manufactured in Centennial White. The car has been cared for since new with regular service and indoor storage while under thoughtful enthusiast ownership. All service has been performed as needed, including the NHTSA 2015 factory warrantee replacement for the driver side airbag. Please note that a separate 2016 NHTSA recall for passenger airbag inflators was initiated last year but a permanent remedy has not yet been determined for repair or replacement by NHTSA at this time. New owners will be notified by mail for this service/replacement at no additional charge by a corresponding Ford dealer.

Today this two-owner car exhibits essentially as new with beautiful factory original paint, factory optional wheels, and all glass, lenses, and exterior body trim in excellent cosmetic condition. The current owner installed protective coating “clear bra” over the front of the car to protect the paint from any potential road chips. There is also a similar protective clear coating long the door edges to protect from door dings. All openings function as new, with excellent closure, proper gapping, and no warping on front or rear bumper caps. There are no chips or scratches in the gorgeous wrap around windshield and no major marks or chips on the body surface.

Inside the car, the theme of “as new” continues with excellent finishes in all interior components, smooth and supple leather trimmed seats, dash, and console materials all come together beautifully. The current owner installed a small rear view camera, which enables safe and manageable reverse movement with highly improved visibility. Additionally, there is a blue tooth device and USB charge port installed for music streaming and convenient charging for various USB compatible devices. The six-speed manual is a delightful engagement to any performance enthusiast who enjoys manual shifting - in the spirit of the original GT40 and the unprecedented “one-two-three” Le Mans victory. Under the hood the stout and visually arresting supercharged engine has been meticulously maintained both mechanically and cosmetically, showing little to no signs of use despite the 10,481 original miles showing on the odometer.

The undercarriage of the car is very well maintained with no notable damage or significant road scars, even along the three factory panels of reverse-dimpled aerodynamic chassis armor. Suspension and various exposed components in the underside are further in excellent condition, with clean and fresh appearance as new.

The car starts easily and engages in gear smoothly with very nice clutch action. Acceleration is progressive and street-friendly without lumbering or heavy steering at low speeds. Agile in slow traffic, the real joy erupts when an open section of roadway allows the GT to stretch its legs. Power comes on in one giant gulp as the car awakens and you experience the mid-engine shove of delight pressing against your shoulder blades. Cornering and braking are on a par with some of the best track cars of this period, and yet, as mentioned before, coming down from high speeds or challenging roadways, one is just as easily at home cruising in gentle traffic with the radio on enjoying the scenery.
