2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
VIN WDDRJ7HA7BA001515
AMG Alubeam Silver with Classic Red Leather Interior

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is among the most stunning contemporary performance cars offered in the last decade. A technological tour de force of engineering and design, the front mid-bias platform was designed to be the spiritual successor to the legendary 300SL Gullwing, hence the name Super Leight Sport or Super Light Sport. Having the unique distinction of being the first car designed and built entirely from scratch by AMG, the SLS debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show to rave reviews. The 583 hp V8 engine was billed as the “World’s more powerful naturally aspirated production series engine” ever produced – but the engine was just one aspect of a vast array of phenomenal features.

Designed by Mark Fetherston to envoke the classic 300SL Gullwing, the SLS AMG delivered a commanding visual presence consistent with the rich racing and performance history of these legendary cars. Outfitted with comfort feartures and an array of technological drivetrain, suspension, and braking advances, the SLS AMG received numerous design awards and distinctions upon release. Assembled essentially by hand with both aluminum chassis and body being produced by Magna Steyr, Austria, each car was individually prepared and outfitted per customer order including each engine, assembled by hand at AMG in Affalterbach, Germany. Offered initially for the European markets, the SLS AMG was officially made available for US delivery in mid-2010.

At the heart of the performance capabilities of this astonishing car, the AMG M159 engine began as an M156 series block (itself the first engine autonomously designed by AMG, which saw use in the E63/S63/SL63 etc.). The AMG team developed over 120 engine modifications including a magnesium intake, forged pistons, optimized tubular headers, and a dry sump oil system, which allows for better oiling under intense cornering conditions and a lower center of gravity when positioned in the engine compartment. A rear-mounted AMG Dual Clutch Semi-Automatic transmission is fed by a lightweight carbon fiber driveshaft, and offers selectable driving modes including a manual shift mode via steering wheel paddles. Four-wheel disc anti-lock braking is managed with 6-piston aluminum front and 4-piston aluminum rear calipers, which coupled with the substantial contact patches, give extremely impressive braking.

Accelerative performance is also very impressive: the SLS achieves 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds at 125 mph. All cars were equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems including a 3-stage Electronic Stability Program and a unique rollover door-bolt ejection system allowing the doors to be separated from the car, facilitating safe exit of both passengers in the event of rollover. In addition to the lightweight material construction and superlative engineering, all cars were outfitted with the AMG limited slip differential, forged dual wishbone suspension, Xenon headlamps, eight airbags, and a rearview camera.

Interior amenities included Parktronic, auto dimming and folding mirrors, dual zone climate control, heated power seats, iPod/MP3 Media Interface, and Enhanced Voice Control System, to name a few of the many comfort and convenience features offered on the car. The combined elegance, superlative performance, and landmark design made the SLS AMG the pinnacle of Mercedes Benz performance, not just as a spectacular performance car, but just as suited for vigorous high-speed jaunts at record times, or comfortable but thrilling road touring.

This particularly stunning example was delivered new to the first and only owner in July 2010. The car was ordered with the rare AMG Alubeam Silver exterior paint, itself a $12,500 option, and further optioned with the AMG Leather/Alcantara steering wheel and the AMG Performance Suspension System. Total retail price reflected on the window sticker was $200,325.00. During the past eight years of ownership, the car has been driven a mere 1,100 miles. Service includes various safety and emissions inspections for California registration as well as tire pressure and condition inspection, all of which are indicated on the May 2019 Carfax.

Today, this exceptional car presents beautifully with the original Alubeam Silver paint delivering a deep, lustrous finish. This metallic finish has a wonderful shift in hue that warms over late-night sunsets and appears to glow in dim lighting. This unique silver not only conveys the body shapes in a dramatic way, it gives the car a dynamic visual presence, particularly as contrasted over the stunning red leather interior. All glass surfaces, clear front and rear lenses, and exterior body trim are in excellent cosmetic condition. The paint is in excellent condition throughout with no notable flaws, even at the lower edge of the front air dam. All openings function as new, with excellent closure, proper gapping, and crisp fit to front and rear bumper caps. The doors open with an elegant upward swinging motion, allowing occupants surprisingly easy entrance and exit given the large protective sills. There are no chips or scratches in the gorgeous expansive windshield, rear, or side glass. The wheels and tires are in excellent condition as well with no curb rash and high gloss to the wheel surfaces.

Inside the car, the supple, factory fresh leather interior exhibits near new finishes throughout showing only one minor mark on the bottom of the driver’s seat cushion. All interior components have been beautifully maintained including smooth and supple leather trimmed seats, sculpted dash, and console materials, all of which form a beautifully cohesive cockpit. The seats are not only visually stunning, they are comfortable and supportive – the perfect balance for support and comfort for a range of driving conditions. The optional Leather and Alcantara steering wheel is backed by paddle gearchange levers and surfaced with easy to use convenience controls. The iconic gullwing doors open smoothly and easily, making something as mundane as curbside entry and exit a memorable experience. The trunk compartment further continues the exemplary presentation of this essentially new car with factory finishes and the factory first aid kit still in place.

Under the hood, the stout and visually stunning hand-built AMG performance engine is mounted well back in the chassis for optimum weight distribution and has been meticulously maintained both mechanically and cosmetically. It shows little to no signs of use, further supporting the low original miles shown on the odometer. Every factory component, trim piece, and manufacturer’s engine compartment sticker still remains as new. The undercarriage of the car further supports the documented low miles showing no significant road marks on the factory aerodynamic chassis pans. Suspension and various exposed components revealed in the underside are further in excellent condition, with clean and fresh appearance as new.

Stepping up to the car and activating the gullwing doors, one is immediately drawn into the red interior. The inviting leather aroma and smooth seating, instantly transport you, nestling into the contoured seats. The rich blend of aluminum and leather finishes convey a wonderful combination of performance and elegance. The car starts instantly under the press of the starter button, delivering an immediate throaty naturally-aspirated V8 exhaust note. The particularly keen enthusiast will enjoy this starting process with the door still in the open position, reveling at the sonorous engine. The engine quiets to a ready idle as the door is shut and the open road awaits you. Driving the SLS AMG becomes an immediate sensory experience including the touch of the leather steering wheel, progressive yet brutal acceleration, and nimble controls, all of which are unified in an elegant ballet. Even while idling in daily traffic, the SLS AMG is a docile and patient participant, with refreshing climate controls, a superlative sound system, and easy to use conveniences. However, once invited to the open road, the car reveals explosive acceleration and power that seems to derive from a bottomless storehouse of energy. Slingshot bounding 3-second jaunts to legal highway speeds become ear to ear grins even after backing off the throttle, which in certain modes, is also accompanied by evocative crackles from the exhaust. Cornering and braking are simply magnificent, coming down from high speeds smoothly and evenly. The steering is quick and communicative, with an urgency to the turn-in that gives the car a light, immediate character that makes it feel smaller than it is. Navigating even lesser developed roads or neighborhood driveways, the SLS AMG is compliant and easy to use. Unlike so many fussy or hard to manage high-performance cars, the legacy of racing and luxury truly combine in this astonishingly beautiful and very usable automobile.

This beautiful Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is accompanied by a set of factory manuals with factory leather pouch, factory first aid kit, and the factory window sticker. Ready for enjoyable use, this superlative 21st century supercar delivers a premium Mercedes-Benz performance and luxury experience uniquely blending the finest in technology with the distinctive legacy of the legendary 300SL Gullwing.
