Description

2013 Ferrari 458 Challenge GT3/VLN Spec Racecar
VIN: ZFF1NXX000179358
Yellow and Black Livery

This Ferrari 458 is a very special Challenge race car. Raced almost exclusively in at the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife (long circuit), it has been professionally upgraded to virtually full GT3 specification with a wider front and rear track, special area package with fender arch flairs and a different frontal area (later adopted by the factory for their cars), and GT3 dimension wheels. At present, the car has approximately 6,400 kilometer of running time on the engine and transmission. The modifications towards GT3 specification were carried out by Rinaldi Racing’s GT Corse, the team who campaigned this car exclusively, and the only Ferrari FIA GT under German Leadership.

As a brand new car, and prior to any modifications from standard 458 Challenge specification, this chassis raced in the 2012 Challenge support race at Le Mans during the 24 Hour weekend. At the Nurburgring, under Rockstar livery, this chassis qualified on the pole position for the SP8 class on August 23rd, 2014, finishing 3rd in class in the race. A month before a 2nd place in SP8 was earned, just one of several podiums garnered that year alone.

Eligible for SCCA, NASA, HSR, and many other series here in the USA and abroad, it is important for the amateur racers to acknowledge the benefits of the modified challenge package. Both traction control and ABS are standard features on the 458 Challenge racecar, and remain in place, whereas, on a full GT3 specification car, they have been disallowed in accordance with the balance of performance restrictions. The wider front and rear tracks, and wider wheels make this car much more stable, and easier for the average driver to explore its limits of adhesion. When compared to the Audi R8, and McLaren MP4-12C FIA GT3 cars, this Ferrari is much less personnel intensive, and easier to run in a track day or club racing setting. On an 8 min 30 sec lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife this example has proven to be about 10 second a lap slower than a full GT3 spec Ferrari 458, but does so on a much more economical basis.

A true Michelotti-built Ferrari race car, with Le Mans and Nurburgring history, this 458 provides an interesting opportunity to purchase a hybrid historic and contemporary racecar which is eligible for a large grouping of events the world over, has considerable ease of ownership, and will likely outpace everything at your next track day or become the center piece of a collection of modern high performance late model super cars.
