General Overview

Introduced in 1996, the flagship Maranello replaced a long line of twelve-cylinder mid-engine cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and advanced to the Testarossa. Designed to capture the glory days of Ferrari’s front-engine sports cars (notably the legendary 275 GTB and 365 GTB/Daytona), the Maranello was welcomed by an enthusiastic public and jubilant automotive press. The Pininfarina styling evoked all the grace and muscularity of many earlier Ferraris without succumbing to retro design ideas. The aggressive yet beautifully proportioned body hunkered down over the 485 hp V12 engine and 6-speed manual transaxle, delivering a delightful harmony of power and grace in a highly capable and surprisingly agile road car. Although total production was just 3,083 for the entire run, just 792 were built in 1999.
