General History

Though Dodge came late to the muscle car party, they more than made up for it with the 1970 Dodge Challenger. Wide, powerful, and impressive, this series could be ordered with the powerful Hemi engine and manual transmissions making them the preferred choice for drag racing. Though the fuel crisis killed the Challenger as a muscle car, the brand lived on though in slightly less impressive examples. Fast forward to 2008 when Chrysler revealed the all-new third-generation Challenger at the North American International Auto Show where enthusiasts raved about the power, performance and retro design echoing the original 1970 Challenger.

With continual iterations, a facelift in 2015, and new powertrain enhancements in 2019, and the integration of new tech, the Dodge raised the bar with the RT Scat Pack and 392 models clinging to the all-important Tremec 6-speed manual paired with the incomparable Hemi engine.

Condition and Ownership

Today this Dodge Challenger presents in excellent condition with beautiful Indigo Blue metallic paint and excellent optional body stripes. The finish is rich and lustrous, appearing essentially unmarked on all body surfaces. The body panels are smooth, properly aligned, and the paint and stripes are consistent with factory original finishes. All metal body panels have been metered with a digital paint meter returning single digit numbers on all surfaces ranging from 3-8 mils consistent with factory original paint. The door jams, inner surfaces, and the front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition, with no stone chips evident on the front fascia or satin black rocker panels. A set of Pirelli All Season 275/40 ZR20 performance tires are mounted on the Dynamics Package 20” x 9.5” Low Gloss Black Drag Wheels, all of which remain in excellent condition. Lenses, glass, and lighting are also in excellent condition throughout. The emblems, script lettering, and exterior Hemi branded details are beautifully finished and in excellent condition consistent with the low miles.



The black Alcantara and Nappa interior offers sporting details and superb surfaces in all areas. The premium ventilated seating surfaces include Scat Pack logos, center console, contoured interior door panels, and premium stitched dashboard all present in excellent condition with virtually no evidence of use. In addition to the rarity of this Shaker 392 and combined packages, the 6-speed manual shifter has been upgraded with an authentic Hurst Pistol Grip Shifter that replicates the original Pistol Grip shifter from the original 1970 Challenger, updated with carbon fiber handle sections that match the carbon fiber dashboard and center console trim. The optional carbon/suede interior trim adds an additional performance touch to the interior. The optional white dial gauges function properly as do all systems including the air conditioning, adjustment features, and the premium sound system. The digital display system functions properly along with connectivity features and infotainment offering vivid and colorful displays. The condition of the carpeting, headliner, and rear seating area are essentially in new condition.

Under the hood, the powerful and specially developed 392 Hemi engine is clean and unmodified from new, highlighted by performance detailing, displaying distinct insignias along with key factory stock features, the factory correct air induction system, and optional Mopar front strut brace ensure that 485 hp is durably conveyed to the rear wheels. The underside is essentially showroom fresh as the car has been driven in dry weather and carefully preserved when parked indoors.

This Challenger RT lights off instantly with a wonderful burst of Hemi power and the perfect exhaust note for the legendary V8 engine. The throttle response is wicked and commanding, delivering a giant serving of power packed torque and tremendous grip from the 9.5” wide wheels and Pirelli tires. The desirable combination of the 6-speed manual transmission, launch control, and gobs of usable horsepower is not only fantastic for performance challenges, the entire driving experience from docile traffic cruising to highway onramp jaunts delivers ear to ear grins even for the most jaded muscle car enthusiasts. Brembo brakes haul this powerhouse down with smooth and straight tracking, line lock and launch control help keep power to the ground when needed, and the premium audio makes for a welcome companion between growling acceleration romps.
