General Overview:

In the throes of the 1930s, America was a landscape of contrasts. Emerging from the shadows of the Great Depression, the nation was a tapestry of bustling industry and resilient spirit. The 1937 Ford epitomizes this era, a testament to the enduring allure of American innovation and design. With its streamlined contours and bold, art deco elements, the Ford models of this year were not merely vehicles but symbols of hope and progress on wheels, capturing the optimism of a country on the mend. The 1937 Ford, with its distinctive teardrop headlights and flowing grille, added a touch of sophistication to the average American driver’s ownership. These durable cars offered the perfect blend of form and function, mirroring the resilience and pride for survivors of the Great Depression.

As decades progressed, the 1937 Ford evolved alongside the emergent hot rod culture of the post-war era. By the 1960s, hot rodding had become an emblem of American innovation and defiance, propelling the genre into a mainstream phenomenon. Enthusiasts, driven by a passion for customization and speed, adopted these pre-war classics, transforming them into powerful and personalized machines. By reengineering these cars, enhancing the engines, and overhauling the suspension, hot rod enthusiasts transformed their cars into lasting expressions of what continues to thrive as a uniquely American sub-culture.

This 1937 Ford Restomod Coupe marries the classic beauty with contemporary hot rod culture. Maintaining the classic lines and features of the original 1937 design, the drivetrain has been updated with a Chevrolet 327 cubic inch V8 which is stamped with designations on the engine block indicating the engine originated from a 1968 Chevrolet, 275hp rating, built at the Tonawanda plant. Though much of the earlier history is not known at this time, based on the construction and design elements, it appears to have been built in late 1990s and freshened in the 2000s. The engine is outfitted with an Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor which sits atop a medium riser aftermarket intake manifold, plumbed and linkage driven via braided stainless various lines. A long box fluted air cleaner matches a set of valve covers and spark wire covers. The firewall has been cleaned and smoothed and polished steel rods support the radiator to cowl structure. A modern alternator and updated ignition system finish the technical specs of this nicely dressed engine.

Under current ownership this car has enjoyed local driving and various events, has been stored indoors, and the cosmetic condition is reflective of enthusiast care.

General Condition:

Today this 37 Ford presents in excellent condition. The streamlined body retains the timeless charm of the 1930s design conveyed in bright glossy red. The body sits at a lowered position over the frame with raked stance, cleaned body details, and minimal chrome. Minor evidence of use can be seen in a few areas of the finish but otherwise, the visual condition is very satisfying. The chrome bumpers, grille, and headlight trim are excellent in both finish and alignment. Two-tone pinstriping accents the classic beltline while the fenders hunker down on the lower profile wheels. The distinctive teardrop headlights, hood side vents, and chrome hood latch/ornament complete the vintage restomod flavor. All opening panels function smoothly with good panel alignment – a nice feature especially considering the scale and heft of the large steel doors and single panel rear access door, unique to this coupe configuration. A set of American Racing wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich P195/70R14 front and P236/70R16 rear wear front disc and rear drum brakes.

The interior of the 1937 Ford Restomod Coupe blends classic design elements with modern conveniences, creating a comfortable yet stylish environment. The cabin features matching grey leather and vinyl materials with dark grey carpets and red door accents. The padded dashboard is finished with a central engine turned panel, a set of six Stewart Warner white dial gauges, and an aftermarket AC control unit which formerly controlled the now removed AC system. An under-dash Alpine stereo unit and cabin speakers are also installed. The soft grey leather seats are in excellent condition, showing minimal wear and providing both comfort and durability, contoured in late model high-back bucket seat profile, adjustable headrests, and modern recoiling lap belts for front occupants. The rear seat is finished with matching leather and continues the embossed side panel detail along with a matching headliner, completing the monochrome interior look. Painted grey window garnish, matching wrapped door piping, and padded door armrests are just some of the finer details on the interior. A single floor mounted gear lever operates automatic gear selection, and the modern “banjo” type steering wheel is ideally positioned on a drop -own billet steering column with tilt wheel and turn indicator lever. The rear hinged fastback panel opens upward revealing a large, carpeted area which features a practical mesh-net upper storage compartment and a hidden panel lower compartment ideal for secure storage. Like the interior door panels, the trunk features a custom embossed design motif on clean matching grey panels. The attention to detail, custom features, and quality fitment are all indications of this 37 Ford having been professionally built by experts in their craft.

The hood ornament ingeniously serves as access points to the engine bay, revealing the handsomely dressed Chevrolet V8 engine. The firewall has been smoothed and cleaned indicative of professional work performed on the car to a high level, concealing much of the wiring and former systems. Engine features include power steering, a polished air intake, polished valve covers, flexible chrome coolant hose, modern polished alternator, electric cooling fan, and coated tubular headers. The undercarriage is clean and well maintained, revealing some history relevant to the original build. The main frame section is enhanced with square tube construction unified to the main frame rails and front suspension/engine cradle. A set of rear ladder bars are mounted to drop down brackets on the main rails and differential, tucked under the stock steel floor. The body drop rests over much of the frame and chassis components adding to the professional body stance. The main frame, differential, and other components show areas of light green paint indicating the initial build may have featured this color prior to the current vivid red. The car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes as well as coil-over suspension independent front and rear, with a solid rear axle and single length driveshaft. A set of dual Flowmaster exhaust runs the length of the chassis with rear under-bumper exits on large diameter straight pipes.
