Beautifully Restored Open VA Tourer
1937 MG VA Tourer
s/n VA807T engine no. TPBG1182
Burgundy with Burgundy Leather Interior
Rarely seen in the US, the MG VA was MG’s four-cylinder sport saloon, produced from 1937 to 1939. Handsomely styled and more useful than their diminutive TA sports cars, the VA was usually fitted with saloon bodywork, although a Tickford drophead body was also offered, in addition to a four-seat tourer, which was the most rakish body with its cut down doors. 2407 VAs of all types were built, all of which are equipped with Lockheed hydraulic brakes.
This particular car is a Tourer that was beautifully restored in the United Kingdom. British car restoration expert Martin Hveem has maintained this car for its current owner and reports that it is the finest example he has encountered. Certainly the car is in beautiful shape and would likely do well if shown.
The car is in excellent cosmetic shape, with high quality paint over well-prepped body. The paint is in excellent shape, with virtually no wear or deterioration other than a scratch on the left rear fender near the top. The car has full weather equipment including side curtains, all of which is in excellent shape. The chrome is in very good to excellent shape throughout. The wheels are excellent and sit on period Dunlop bias ply tires. The lights and glass are equally nice.
The interior is in excellent overall condition, with lightly mellowed leather upholstery. High quality wool carpeting was employed which is essentially in new condition. The dashboard is excellent with beautifully executed instruments which are in restored condition, as is the wood dashboard.
The engine compartment has been beautifully restored and is essentially show-ready. All surfaces have been refinished to high standards and details, such as the decal on the brake fluid reservoir have been accurately reproduced. The undercarriage is equally nice, being highly detailed and extremely clean.
This is a wonderful no-excuses example of a VA 4-Seat Tourer, the most rakish body fitted to the VA. Quite possibly the finest example available, this car is ready to show or drive and is sure to attract admiration of British car connoisseurs wherever it goes.
