NCRS Top Flight Winner, Original Colors, Matching Numbers, in the Same Family Since 1958
1955 Chevrolet Corvette
s/n VE55S001299 engine no. 0246I63 F55FG
Harvest Gold with Harvest Gold and Woodland Green Interior
1955 is a unique year for the Corvette because very few were built, just 700, making a 1955 Corvette second only to the 1953 in rarity. Additionally, 1955 was the first year of the V8 engine and the last year of the original body style. The Corvette was initially available in only one color combination: white with a red interior. Gradually more colors were added, and by 1955, five colors were available.
This particular car is one of just 120 Harvest Gold on two-tone Harvest Gold and Woodland Green interior cars built. This is a truly top drawer example, having been in the care of the same family since 1958, and having received a fastidious frame-off restoration to NCRS Top Flight award-winning condition. The car is matching numbers and is reported to have covered just 35,000 miles from new. It is well-optioned, with heater, courtesy lights, powerglide transmission, wonderbar radio, and distributor shielding.
The car was comprehensively restored to its original specification, right down to the two-tone interior and dark green canvas top. After the completion of the restoration, the car was shown at a regional NCRS event in March 2012, where the car scored 96.6 points and was awarded a Top Flight award.
Consequently, the car is in excellent condition. The car was authentically restored to a similar condition as it would have been new, rather than having been over-restored. The paintwork is excellent throughout, with no major flaws or blemishes. The chrome is also excellent, as are the trim and glass. The windscreen is original and has a few marks, but is in very fine shape considering that it has never been replaced. The detailing is excellent throughout, including the 1955-only front badge, correct wheel covers, the right headlight bulbs, air cleaner, coil and distributor shielding, 098 coil, 2218s carb, heater valve, and spinner hubcaps.
The interior was beautifully redone, and the color combination is a refreshing change from the typical Corvettes that looks smart in person even if it sounds unusual. The upholstery and carpets were redone to high standards, as was the dashboard, including all the switchgear. The dashboard is excellent other than some chipping to the paint beneath the ignition key hole and fuel gauge. The restored side curtains are present with the car, as is the original bag for them which is affixed to the firewall in the trunk.
The engine compartment was very correctly restored, as is required for a competitive NCRS show car. The correct decal on the distributor cover is present, and the battery is of the correct type as well. The correct finishes are applied throughout, and the engine remains nicely detailed, with just light soiling and dust from use and storage. The finish on the intake manifold is starting to deteriorate slightly, but the engine compartment is otherwise difficult to fault.
The car is complete with side curtains, photo book documenting correctness and fastidiousness of the restoration, extensive photo album of restoration, a thick file of restoration invoices, and the NCRA judging sheets. The photos of the car from before the restoration show how solid, correct, and undisturbed it was prior to restoration.
Simply put, this is a collector-grade, no-excuses example of a very rare and desirable car. One of just 700 1955 Corvettes built, this car is finished in its rare and original color combination, is matching numbers, and has been restored to very high standards, making it an excellent buy for a Corvette enthusiast or collector looking for something unique.
