Description

1960 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
s/n 00867S100507, engine no. FI00ICU
Tasco Turquoise with White Coves and Turquoise Interior

In 1960 the Chevrolet was thoroughly reworked under its timeless body in an effort to focus it as a more performance-centered car. This was achieved through the addition of an aluminum clutch and new sway-bars which greatly improved performance and handling over previous model-years. Under the watchful eye of famed General Motors engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, the Corvette was taken from a boulevard cruiser in its earlier years to a more track-oriented performance automobile. The car’s power derived from a host of small-block V8s with power outputs ranging from 230 to 315 horsepower in 1960. The power from these engines could be sent to the road through a choice of either four-speed manual or two-speed Powerglide automatic transmissions. The intricate chrome detailing and extensive interior upgrades of the 1958-1960 models represent the penultimate integration of the original Corvette platform.

This particular car is a matching numbers example finished in striking Tasco Turquoise with a matching turquoise interior. In 1996, the car received a thorough frame-off restoration and one year later, it was awarded the prestigious Top Flight award by the National Corvette Restorers Society, their highest accolade. Having undergone a further $25,000 in work four years ago to freshen the restoration, the car remains cosmetically excellent and very sound mechanically. It is equipped with 270hp engine with 4-speed manual transmission. It is nicely optioned with dual four barrel carburetors, power windows, and WonderBar radio.

The current owner has just installed new radial tires with new steel wheels, and the original wheels and tires accompany the car. All fluids were changed, and a full service including alignment, new battery, and new air hoses performed. The front carburetor was rebuilt, the throttle linkage adjusted, the engine superbly tuned, adding quite a boost in performance. It is a very quick, solid axle Corvette that handles very well.

The car still presents very freshly, with excellent paintwork that shows very few blemishes. There is one hairline crack near the rear corner of the engine lid opening. The chrome presents well, with light surface swirls but no scratches or deterioration of significance. The glazing and lights are in excellent shape and the car has vintage type T3 headlamps. It sits on whitewall Goodyear tires, which, coupled with the prototypical 1950s color combination give the car an evocative period flair.

The interior is similarly nice. The presentation is very correct throughout and the trim, dashboard, and accessories are in excellent shape. The carpets are excellent and are covered by Corvette plastic mats, and the upholstery is also in excellent condition. The instruments are in restored condition, as are the controls and the remainder of the dashboard. The WonderBar radio is in place.

The engine compartment is clean, detailed, and very correctly presented. The engine, accessories, and inner fenders are very clean, with the appearance of an older well-kept restoration done to the highest standards. The trunk is correctly and thoroughly restored in matching turquoise. The correct rubber mat is in place, color-coordinated of course, and beneath the mat, the trunk floor and spare tire well were thoroughly restored as well.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a matching numbers 1960 Corvette that was restored to the highest standards and remains fresh and extremely correct in its presentation. A matching-numbers example, this car is desirably equipped with dual quad 270hp powerplant, power windows, and Wonder Bar, and is in a wonderful period color combination. It runs and drives well and is ready for touring or would likely still do well at NCRS shows.
