Description

1961 Porsche 356B Cabriolet s/n 154389 Slate Grey with Red Leather Interior The 356 B represents significant advances in drivability and comfort over earlier 356 models, and features the updated T5 body with its higher bumpers and more modernized interior. In cabriolet form, it is a civilized and exhilarating way to enjoy the traditional Porsche values of high quality, value, reliability, and mechanical robustness. This particular car has seen a thorough driver quality restoration and is ready to be enjoyed. The paint, top, and interior were all renewed, and some of the chrome appears to have been recently renewed as well. Cosmetically it is smart and presentable, but not too nice to be used regularly. The bodywork is rust free and the gaps are generally good and consistent. The paintwork shows some orange peel but is otherwise satisfactory, showing no significant signs of wear or damage. The color is very attractive as both a period correct color, but also as a color that remains attractive today, especially when combined with the beautiful red leather interior. Also, as noted by the Certificate of Authenticity, it is the original color of the car. The chrome on the hubcaps and overriders appears to have been recently redone and looks almost new while the remainder of the chrome is presentable with some light hazing. A Talbot mirror is fitted on the driver`s side. The wheels themselves were repainted and are excellent. The glass and lenses are presentable as well, with light wear to the windscreen. The interior is outstanding. The front and rear seats, door panels and dashboard top were all redone in beautiful red leather. The carpets were redone as well in the correct German square weave material and the work is to a high standard. The rubber floor mats appear to have been replaced and show no appreciable wear. The gauges are excellent and the visors new. A full canvas tonneau cover is included and the buttons for its installation are in place. The steering wheel shows minor cracking to the rim upon close inspection. The door jambs are well detailed throughout. The top has been recently replaced and is in fantastic condition. It fits well, is well-made and is fully insulated. The trunk is nice and reasonably well detailed, revealing the correct washer bag and spare tire strap, as well as the jack. The engine compartment is tidy and clean. The engine itself is a 1600cc unit that makes good power with no smoke. The timing case (which is the part that bears the motor number) shows a number that corresponds to a 356A and thus the car does not show as a matching numbers car, but the block appears to be correct for the car. The underside is fairly clean, but not detailed for show. The floors and battery box appear to have been replaced and the car appears to be consequently rust-free. The engine and transmission are very dry. The car drives as it should. It stops evenly and corners competently, and the motor feels healthy. Extras include an uninstalled radio in need of some restoration, the original visors, and a handbook. This car is a superb example that would be great to use regularly, especially with the warmer months approaching. It appears to have no significant mechanical or cosmetic needs, and with its killer color combination and beautiful interior, it would be a fantastic way to spend time this summer. Moreover, with the prices of open 356`s continuing to escalate, this car is a sound investment. When compared to a Convertible D in the neighborhood of $125,000 and a Speedster at the thick end of the one to two hundred thousand dollar range, this car certainly is an appealing proposition.
