The E-Type was unveiled in March of 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, following the famous 11th hour disorder (one of the cars was driven to the show from England with just hours to spare). The car was an immediate sensation: its specification was state of the art, its bodywork arrestingly gorgeous, and the price surprisingly affordable. It embodied William Lyons` values beautifully and it is no surprise that the E-Type has become such a legendary part of automotive history. The specification clearly demonstrated Jaguar`s racing experience and included independent suspension all around (at a time when Ferrari was still using live rear axles), disc brakes all around (inboard at the rear to reduce unsprung weight), and of course Jaguar`s legendary twin cam inline-6. The cars were continuously developed, however, the arrival of American safety legislation and the twelve cylinder engine made later cars less attractive and less sporting, making the series I cars the pick of the bunch.
This particular E-Type was restored approximately 15 years ago and remains in wonderful and serviced condition throughout. It is an early manufacture left hand drive example featuring flat floors and welded bonnet louvers and is the 947th LHD Open Two Seater that was built in late October of 1961.

The paint is in good to very good condition and has been treated to Griots' products as often as possible in its previous ownership. The original colors on this car were Old English White over Red. All chrome is in very good condition and fits properly. The top is also to original specification (canvas) in good condition; it is fitted with the original boot cover as well as a new canvas Toneau cover.
The interior is correct with recent rebuilds of the central tunnel & console detailing. The black leather is has beautiful patina.

Mechanically, the engine runs very well with great oil pressure at both speed and idle. It has been fitted with new O.E. manifolds (yes, the porcelain has already cracked) and features a stainless steel exhaust system. It's been recently fitted with a spin on oil filter for improved flow & filtration (all original parts have been saved). Lastly, a Pertronix coil and distributor have been installed. The Transmission is the original Moss 4 speed and works very well. The clutch is working properly has been fitted with rebuilt master & slave cylinders. At the same time, the slave hose was replaced with a braided unit. The radiator is a CoolCat replica of the finned aluminum Marston radiator and a new multi-blade fan in place of the original. Upon updating, all coolant hoses were replaced with kevlar but retained the original Jubilee clamps, the expansion tank was refinished as was the standoff bracket. The suspension has been gone through and is fitted with new Spax adjustable shocks, torsion bars & adjustable reaction plate. Brakes have been serviced and safety wired. This E-type shows mileage of 54,335, although possibly original, it cannot be confirmed.
This is a terrific opportunity to acquire a tidy and mechanically sorted E-Type roadster and is ready for any enthusiast who requires not only a beautiful looking E-type but a proper driving example as well.
