1963 Porsche 356 B Cabriolet
s/n 158062 engine no. P*610430*
Condor Yellow/Black Leather
The 356 B represents significant advances in drivability and comfort over earlier 356 models, and features the updated T6 body with its higher bumpers and enlarged trunk opening. In cabriolet form, it is a civilized and exhilarating way to enjoy the traditional Porsche values of high quality, value, reliability, and mechanical robustness.
This particular car been cosmetically restored to very good driver standards and would make a superb car to actually use and enjoy. It has some service records that date as far back as 1980, and indicate that the car has been in California since at least then. More recently, the car received a new top, new paint, and new interior. The work was done between 1995 and 1999, and the car has seen little use since.
Consequently, the car is in excellent cosmetic condition. The paintwork was a fairly high quality job and has held up well. There is very light wear in the form of perhaps half a dozen chips to the front end, a small crack in the passenger door, a very slight dimple in the right front fender, and a handful of other minor marks. The panel gaps vary from excellent on the rear decklid to a bit enlarged on the doors. The gaps are consistent and the fit acceptable, but the gaps are larger than they should be. The doors function correctly and the trunk lid fits properly. The entire car appears to be rust-free. The chrome is all very good, with light wear only, save for a scrape on one of the front overriders. The glass and lenses are very good to excellent throughout, with light wear only. The rubber is starting to show its age in places but remains serviceable. The wheels are fully chromed and feature color crests, though the finish is showing some wear in a few places.
The interior is in extremely nice condition. The seats are in great condition and were capably redone in black leather. The door panels appear to be original vinyl and have survived well, though there is a hole in the driver`s armrest. The carpets are in good condition and are possibly original. A Nardi wood steering wheel has been fitted, and the original Blapunkt radio is still installed as well. The dashboard and gauges are both in excellent condition, and the door jambs are well-detailed. Even the visors are in excellent condition and function correctly.
The engine compartment is extremely clean and has many of the original decals still in place. It looks correct, as does the trunk, which contains the spare, and it is held in place by the correct leather strap. There is also a tool roll with tools and the correct jack. The underside shows that the floors and battery box have been replaced, and the work was done extremely well, eliminating any existing rust at the time of the body restoration.
This is an opportunity to acquire one of these enjoyable open cars at a very attractive price. This car makes a very strong visual impression yet is not so nice as to preclude its new owner from using it regularly with a clear conscience. Moreover, with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the 356`s timeless blend of durability, driving involvement, and unique character, 356`s have been enjoying significant appreciation, which makes this car both a rationally and emotionally appealing proposition.
