Ferdinand Porsche`s first roadgoing model bearing his own name was the 356. Introduced in 1948, it underwent continuous development during the production run, which finally ended in 1965. By production’s end, the car had come a long way. Engine output over doubled, from 40hp at introduction to just shy of 100hp in the last examples. The ultimate development from these years was the 356 C, which represented huge advances over earlier models, including the adoption of disc brakes. They were available in several configurations as both coupes and cabriolets, and with several motors. Aside from cars fitted the rare and extremely complicated four-cam racing motors, the SC the top of the range in terms of performance, with its more sporting suspension and more powerful motor.

This particular car is perhaps the ultimate specification and configuration example for the discerning collector. The car is extremely complete as well, with owner’s manual with pouch, tools, jack, extensive service records back to the 1970’s, receipts from the restoration, and Certificate of Authenticity. The car has been in California for the better part of four decades, aside from the last three years, which it has spent in the collection of a New York-based enthusiast.

The restoration included the entire car, and was completed to the highest and very correct standards. It is well-documented, and was completed over several years, from approximately 2000 to 2003. The paintwork was approximately $20,000, while the engine and transmission were an additional $12,000. The suspension and braking systems were renewed in 2006, and the undercarriage of the car completely restored as well. The car has seen continuous upkeep and maintenance since then, including new tires 300 miles ago, and a valve adjustment and fluids change 200 miles ago.

The car is presently in impressive excellent cosmetic condition. The bodywork is exceptional, with superb fit and gaps. The paintwork is high quality, and the panels extremely straight. The chrome is very good, with only light scratching and pitting. The lights and lamps are excellent, and the car has been fitted with much improved H4 headlamps, and European amber rear lenses. The car also has Hella 128 French type yellow fog lamps. The wheels have painted color crests to the hubcaps, and the car has Dean Jeffries Kustom Karrera iron cross torsion bar covers.

The interior is in equally nice condition, with correct upholstery, floor mats, and carpets. A replica Les Leston steering wheel has been fitted, and the quality of workmanship and condition are extremely difficult to fault.
