Introduced at the 1964 Paris Auto Show, the 275 GTB represented significant advances over the 250 GT Lusso that it replaced. The styling was more exciting and rakish, and mechanically, the cars were much more sophisticated. Independent suspension was fitted all around for the first time on a road-going Ferrari, and a 5-speed gearbox was also included in the specification. The transmission was mounted at the rear of the car for improved weight distribution in a transaxle. These features combined with the larger and more powerful 3.3 liter engine meant that the 275 GTB was a markedly faster and more capable car than any other mainstream roadgoing Ferrari before it. This example is a unique car in that it was equipped from the factory with the desirable six carburetor option, giving it its `GTB 6C` denomination. That it was and remains achingly beautiful is further icing on the cake.

Per Ferrari historians Gerald Roush and Hillary Raab, this factory equipped GTB 6C, long nose, torque tube example was delivered new to the US (assembly sequence no. 358, body no. 361). As of 1970, the car resided in Connecticut and was finished in fly yellow with black leather interior as it is today. This example has enjoyed one very long term ownership period (32 years in total!) until being acquired by the current owner, a Ferrari enthusiast, in early 2008. Towards the end of this long-term ownership period the car saw considerable restorative work performed by Skip McCabe. The engine was refreshed as necessary which included rebuilding the heads with Motorcraft in Indianapolis, Indiana. The car was repainted, the original chrome cleared over to maintain its luster, and underside was thoroughly detailed including the refinishing of the suspension arms, chassis, and brakes, among other components. Since restoration, the car has proven to be an award winner when shown in local events.

Today the car remains a very strong, restored example which makes and outstanding presentation. The repaint is a stunning job done over a very straight body with excellent panel match and gaps throughout. The rubber seals and window gaskets have been renewed at the time of the repaint and are very fresh. The chrome bumpers appear to be original and have cleared over to retain their luster. The window surrounds and body trim have been re-chromed and are superb. The window glass is like new all around. This example is fitted with a Talbot side mirror and retains its original Marchal headlights and Carello marker lights. The car sits on like new Michelin XWX tires over restored one piece wheels.

The interior appears to have been restored some time before the balance of the restoration work and remains in very good condition. The dash upholstery, wood veneer, and gauges are all excellent. The seats, door panel upholstery is in very good condition showing just the slightest aging. Speakers have been tastefully installed in the door panels. The chrome is generally good throughout the interior, and is possibly original. It is also possible that the headliner is original, which is in excellent condition, including the sun visors. The trunk has been fitted with fresh upholstery and has a restored look to it.

The engine bay is very nicely detailed and quite complete with the factory correct fuel lines, battery hold down, and air cleaner. Similarly, the underside has the sparkle of a relatively freshly restored example and shows signs of much restorative work- both cosmetic and mechanical. Some liberties have been taken in the restoration process. The brake calipers have been painted red and some selective items in the engine bay (battery hold down, and some of the carburetor linkage) has been chromed.

The car runs well and makes excellent power with minimal, if any, smoke. The transaxle is well adjusted and has very good service both when warm and cold. A leakdown test was performed in the spring of 2008 and all 12 cylinders were between 2-8% confirming the health of the engine.

With the car comes a partially complete tool roll with the hub puller, knock off hammer, oil filter tool, and the correct jack, an owner`s manual, along with a significant file of restoration notes.

This is an outstanding example of these very significant Ferrari road cars. Certainly among the most beautiful Ferrari road cars ever, 275`s have enjoyed tremendous appreciation recently. With just 210 examples equipped with the desirable 6 carburetor option, and only 108 long nose cars equipped with the vastly superior torque tube driveshaft configuration, this wonderful car is among the rarest of the rare, even when considered against other Ferraris such as the Lusso (350 examples built) and the Daytona (over 1200 examples built). This example in its outstanding condition, and desirable 6 carburetor, long nose, torque tube configuration make it both a driver`s choice and a superb addition to any collection.
