Tuxedo Black with Red Stinger and Black Interior
This 1967 427/435 hp Corvette is one of the rarest in existence today. A special order car through the St. Louis plant manager Jack Kanutson, this rare optioned car was to be delivered to the Bill Williams Race Team of Bill Williams Chevrolet in Western KY. From 1963-1967 Bill gave his good friend Jack Kanutson permission to order his cars race ready. This 1967 convertible was to be Bill`s personal car, and had orders to be sent to GM`s most elite testing ground, Zone 00 section A-42 corporate, Moorestown NJ where special treatment was given to the drive train! We have a letter and documentation from Williams which confirms this. The car was then shipped to Bill Williams Chevrolet (Dealer No. 715). Jack Kanutson had originally ordered the 427 L88 430 hp option, but because of production problems he received the 427/435 hp option. Options included were: 467 convertible body, L71 427/435 hp, K66 transistor ignition, M21 4 speed close ratio transmission, G81 positrac, 4.11:1 ratio, QB1 Red Stripe Tires, C07 Auxiliary Hard Top, C08 Vinyl Cover Roof, Std black vinyl interior, A85 shoulder harness, A82 Standard Black Head Restraints, F41 Special Purpose Suspension, J50 Power Brakes, J56 Heavy Duty Brakes, N14 Side Mount Dual Exhaust, A01 Soft Ray Tinted Glass, U69 AM/FM Radio and Rare 900 AA Black Paint.
Due to illness his car was sold in March of 1976. This car was sold with 1,112 miles to a business owner in town. Two years later it was sold and went to Owensboro, KY, driven for a short time and then sat in storage for the next 30 years. The car needed a total restoration, but retained its original drive train. The engine, when disassembled, had 12.5 pop up pistons with a standard bore. The crankshaft was a cross drilled steel GM crankshaft, it has a set of factory 391 cylinder heads that had been port matched and a L88 camshaft, which are believed to have been installed in Moorestown, NJ when it left the St. Louis plant in 1966. This rare find received a complete body off restoration by Performance Plus in Hamilton, Ohio. All work was done to NCRS specs with no expense spared. The car has subsequently received one of the most coveted concourse awards, The Gold Spinner Award.
Less than 1,000 miles have been logged since the restoration was finished. Today the car is perfect or near perfect in every respect. There is not a single mark anywhere to the interior or exterior. The current owner has spent countless hours sorting out finite details to make the car not just show ready, but also road trip worthy. As you would expect, the car looks and driver exactly as a brand new 1967 big block Corvette would.
With the car come the original wheels and B F Goodrich period DOT tires, the factory hard top in excellent condition, and much documentation including the original tank sticker and window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, letter from Bill Williams confirms the car`s history, ownership history, and a photographic summary of the restoration process from barn find to frame-off beauty. Also included are the judge sheets from the March 2005 Chevy Vettefest where this car was awarded 968/1000 points.
