1968 Mercedes Benz 280 SL VIN: 113.044-12-002693 Tobacco Brown with Cognac Interior This car was sold new in California to the mother of the fellow we bought it from. It is an extremely nice original, black plate car, with no obvious rust on the under carriage. Much of the original paint and interior components remain untouched, giving it the feel of a well kept but unrestored car. The car was sold new in tobacco brown. The rear quarter panels and area around the rear bumper has been repainted, but the rest of the paint remains original and well kept. There are light surface flaws in some areas in the top surfaces of the paint, and two small dings forward of the windshield. The original indentations next to the headlights remain. The majority of the body gaps around the car are excellent, and the door shut crisp on both sides. The trunk fit to the left quarter panel is less than perfect, but acceptable. The front and rear bumpers both look to have been re-plated, and the exterior chrome and stainless trim is very good throughout. The plastic headlight surrounds and lenses are excellent all around. The interior presents itself very well. The carpets seem original and very well kept, with no major tears or wear spots. The seats have been reupholstered and are like new. The dash and door panel leather are both in extremely good condition. The dash wood is not split, water damaged or discolored, but what varnish remains is very thin. The door jams and rocker sills are clean and presentable. A later radio and more modern seat belts have been fitted. The original Mercedes radio comes with the car. The engine compartment and trunk are nicely kept, original condition. Mechanically its sounds and runs strong, with all gauges, lights, and accessories fully operational. Shifts are smooth, and the brakes stop the car evenly and effectively. There is minimal top end engine noise and no smoke when hot or cold. The car sits on period typical Michelin radial tires. With the car come the complete book set with plastic holder and tool roll with tools, both hard and soft top, and original radio.
