Description

1969 Porsche 911S
s/n 119300894 , Engine no. 6391243
Bahama Yellow with Black Leather

Early 911s embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of the same vintage, but are also wholly evocative of a different era. There is a certain wholeness, cohesiveness, agility, and communicativeness that is only evident when they are driven, and it is no surprise that they have a fanatical following. For many years, however, they were just used cars, which makes finding genuinely solid examples difficult today.

s/n 119300894 was delivered in Europe in March of 1969 to Jeffrey Chandler, son of the owner of the Los Angeles Tribune. It was factory equipped with headrests, an auxiliary heater, antenna and speaker, noise suppression, tinted glass, and perhaps most interestingly, a roll bar. After touring Europe, the car returned to Los Angeles where it spent most of its life. It went to Canada for about 2 years, prior to returning to California.

Considerable restoration work was performed by Autotech Diagnostics & Service LTD, in Ontario, Canada between 2003 and 2007, including an engine rebuild during September of 2004 with new rods, bearings, pistons, timing chains, rockers, cam drive sprockets, seals, and gaskets. The all-important cam chain tensioner update was performed. The clutch assembly was also replaced that that time, and the entire rotating assembly balanced. It total this single invoice came to nearly $20,000. Other mechanical restoration work was performed to the brake, ignition, oil, steering, and fuel injection systems, and the front and rear suspension was rebuilt. More recently, in 2009, the car received a front brake service, and a set of new brake pads, as well as an alignment.

Today, it presents beautifully, having been repainted in its original Bahama Yellow over very straight panels. The brightwork, glass, and lenses are very nice throughout, and the car sits on unmarked 6X16 Fuchs wheels. Sports seats have been added, and nicely upholstered in leather, while the door panels and rear seats look to be original. The carpets have been redone in a material very close to original, and the car retains its rare factory roll bar as listed on the Certificate of Authenticity.

The engine bay sparkles, and speaks to the level of originality achieved throughout the rest of the car. The underside is exceedingly solid and appears to be free of any damage or corrosion repairs.

As is the case with well-tuned and sorted early 911Ss, this car is a strong performer on the open road. The steering is light and agile, brakes effective, and power plentiful, particularly above 5,000 rpm. The transmission shifts smoothly, and the linkage is well adjusted.

This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a very pure Porsche 911S which retains its original engine, gearbox and color combination as shown on the Porsche certificate. Also included are the original owner’s manuals with service book, considerable records for work performed, the original tool roll, and jack, and auxiliary gas heater.
