Description

1970 Maserati Ghibli Coupe
s/n AM115 1522
Red with Tan Leather

Penned by the famous and very talented Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Ghibli was one of his earliest designs. Featuring Maserati’s wonderful quad-cam alloy V8, the car had excellent performance, but was also well-appointed and comfortable. While in production, it was Maserati’s flagship, and represented the last of the traditional front-engined cars before the mid-engined fad began. With just over 1,100 coupes constructed, they are rarer, and arguably better value, than Ferrari’s Daytona which are several multiples their value.

This particular car is the desirable 5-speed model, and has been owned by an Italian car collector in the Midwest for more than 7 years. Prior to that it was owned by his friend- another car collector from the same area- for about a decade. The car received regular annual maintenance by a local Ferrari specialist, GT Motorsports in Pewaukee, WI while under both owners tenure.

Cosmetically this example is best described as a very nice driver, requiring no immediate attention. The paint is generally of very good quality, with several small blemishes about the car. The interior, which appears to be largely original, presents well, with only minor ageing evident. The engine bay is clean and dry, with the appearance of a well cared for, unrestored car.

The car shows 51,000 original miles and has recently had the original starter rebuilt and the battery replaced. The car has had regular valve and cam chain adjustments, carburetor synchronization, and fluid and filter changes. The complete brake system; pads, calipers, hoses and rotors, were recently restored. A new set of Goodyear Eagle ST Tires were also recently fitted.

During the current ownership period the car has enjoyed frequent seasonal use, and has proven to be a reliable, spirited Grand Touring car. It has been taken on rallies and road tours of several hundred miles without missing a beat. An independent mechanical inspection was performed which indicated even compression of 150+ on all cylinders. There is no corrosion or rust evident on the car, and the underbody is clean and original, but not detailed.

The car comes with a reproduction owner’s manual and three sets of keys.
