A Very Clean Pantera with Two Sets of Wheels, Tools, Jack, and Owner's Manual
1973 De Tomaso Pantera
s/n THPNNP05459
Yellow with Black Interior
De Tomaso’s replacement for the attractive but incompletely resolved Mangusta was the Pantera. Maintaining the impressive ingredients that distinguished the Mangusta, including mid-mounted Ford V8, 5-speed ZF transaxle, and dramatic styling, the Pantera also added monocoque construction. The cars sold quite well, and was produced continuously from its 1971 introduction until the early 1990’s (though US importation ceased officially in 1975). Later cars were substantially changed and the early 70s cars have a certain purity that has ensured that they remain attractive and collectible.
This particular car is an extremely clean US-market example that came from significant collection on the east coast. It has been partially restored and has some reversible modifications. It comes with its original wheels, as well as tools. It has recently had a new fuel pump installed and the carburetor rebuilt.
Cosmetically, this is a very attractive example with an excellent body. The panels are straight and fit well. The paint is generally excellent, with a few superficial cracks in the paint where there are complex forms such as at the base of the front windscreen and around the antenna. The paint is otherwise very nice and was done to nice standards. The bright trim is in very good condition, as are the lights and glass. The car sits on Halibrand style wheels in excellent condition and comes with the original Campagnolo alloys as well. Aside from the wheels, the exterior of the car is unmodified.
The interior is excellent condition and is correct aside from an aftermarket steering wheel and stereo system. The upholstery is excellent throughout, including the seats, door panels, center console, dashboard, and firewall. The carpets are excellent and appear to be high quality wool. The switches, controls, and gauges are also in excellent condition, as is the headliner.
The engine compartment is excellent. The removable trunk liner, which often goes missing, has been trimmed in plush grey carpet and the original spare is in place. The transaxle, engine, and inner fenders are very clean and in excellent driver condition. The transaxle is particularly tidy. The front compartment has been trimmed in matching grey carpet, which is excellent. The mechanical components such as the brake booster are in very good cosmetic condition.
The car runs and drives well. The engine is well-tuned, and sounds as it should, with the quintessential American V8 rumble. The car is powerful and moves easily through modern traffic. The transaxle shifts superbly, with excellent synchromesh, even when cold. The brakes are effective, and the steering and suspension free from excessive play.
This is a great opportunity to acquire an attractive US-delivered Pantera in excellent cosmetic condition. A structurally excellent example that also makes a strong cosmetic impression, the car has a handful of non-invasive modifications and is fundamentally undisturbed, retaining the purity of the early 1970s cars. The original wheels are included, along with tools, jack, and owner’s manual.
