Finally, An Affordable Race Prepared Ferrari!
1974 Ferrari 308 GT4 Competition Car s/n 09126 Red, White, and Green Livery Commonly viewed by enthusiasts as one of the 1970s best driving street cars, the GT4 has a natural application to the race track. With a mid engine V8, and a transverse mounted 5 speed gearbox, short wheel base, and forward seating position, these cars promise an inexpensive and unique Ferrari comp car experience. This particular chassis was delivered to the UK as a street car and converted to competition format by DK Engineering, and subsequently raced in the Michelin Maranello Challenge in England. Several modifications were carried out in preparation for racing. The motor was rebuilt to full dry sump `Michelotti` specifications by DK Engineering, and the transmission converted to a dog box five speed unit. The interior was gutted and a Sparco racing seat and wink mirror were installed. A 6-point, bolt in cage and fire system was added. Plexiglas side and rear windows with sliding vents were fitted, replacing the heavier glass units. Lightweight aluminum doors were formed. Side jack points were added to facilitate quicker tire changes. Oversized front and rear AP brake calipers and rotors with aluminum hats are fitted under the slightly larger front and rear wheels. Additionally, larger brake master cylinders and reservoirs have been installed. A side air inlet scoop was riveted on and the rear bumper removed to further lighten the car. The original fuel tank has been removed and a fuel cell installed for racing purposes. Currently the car sits on Hoosier 245/50ZR15 rear tires and 225/45ZR15 fronts. Bob Akin Motorsports has fielded this car in its North American race events. Cosmetically the car is nice, and tastefully modified to its current trim. The engine compartment is nicely detailed, as is the frontal compartment. The paint work is of reasonably high standard, but has the usual wear and tear associated with racing cars. The interior has been assembled to emulate the factory cars with an open and exposed wiring harness with easily accessible fuses and cloth covered firewall. Eligible to be raced in SVRA, SCCA and HSR, there are a growing number of venues in which to use this car each year. This car`s low cost and event eligibility make it the perfect entry level Ferrari competition model.
