Description

1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino
s/n F106AL*10132*
Red with Tan Interior

The 308 GT4 represented many firsts for Ferrari. Powered by Ferrari’s first V8, the car started a long tradition that is still alive today. Additionally, it was Ferrari’s first mid engined 2+2, and the car was the first and so far only production Ferrari styled by Bertone. The engine was a lovely 3 liter quad cam unit topped by four Weber carburetors, and was mounted transversely. The handsome styling has aged well, and the cars are enjoying a resurgence in interest at the present time, particularly because they are enjoyable cars to drive and are quite usable.

This particular example is a four owner car that has always been in California. Fantasy Junction sold the car to its fourth owner in 2001, and its third owner had owned the car since 1989. The car has covered 55,000 miles from new, and was well-maintained, with rebuilt cylinder heads and much other work performed at 49,000-50,000 miles, including rebuilt distributors, engine-out belt service and all hoses and lines. Additionally, the alternator was rebuilt and the clutch replaced less than 2000 miles ago by Patrick Ottis. The car had a very high quality bare metal repaint 1994, and the car remains cosmetically excellent.

The car is in excellent cosmetic condition. The paintwork was beautifully done and remains very nice, with only a few small chips. There is one small area of superficial bubbling behind the right rear wheel. The wheels are staggered 16” BBS items with Yokohama AVS intermediate tires and transform the stance of the car, while the original Campagnolo wheels are also included with the car and wear Michelin XWX tires. The wheels are in excellent shape, and the trim and glass are also excellent. The headlamps are Carello items, and the windows are all of the correct type originally fitted to the car.

The interior is original and is in very good condition considering this. The upholstery is intact with no holes or tears, though it is not as supple as it was when new, and the piping is worn in a few places. The dashboard is excellent with no shrinkage, warping, or discoloration. The switches and controls are also in very fine shape, as are the instruments, other than the seal on the speedometer lifting. The headliner is also excellent, and the carpets are very good other than a hole worn through near the clutch pedal. The steering wheel is in very fine shape, and the center console is very nice.

The trunk, engine compartment, and front compartment are all unrestored, quite original in configuration, and well-preserved. The engine compartment is very clean and correctly finished with silver valve covers and black crackle airbox. The trunk retains its original carpeting, as well as jack bag with jack and tool roll with tools. The front compartment retains its Campagnolo spare, as well as correct washer bag and FIAMM air horn compressor.

The undercarriage is solid and appears to be free of corrosion, and the car runs and drives very well, with good good oil pressure and power from the engine. The gearbox has good syncromeshes and the chassis is solid and responsive. The suspension works well, as do the brakes. The AC blows, but not cold.

This is a great opportunity to acquire 308 GT4 that has been in California from new and is in great mechanical and cosmetic condition. The car has a large file of records dating back to 1990 and is very complete with owner’s manual, jack, and tools. While the belts were done 5,000 miles ago, they are due to be changed because of time elapsed since their last replacement. As a 1975, the car is smog exempt in California.
