Few cars spark the flair that is associated with the Rolls Royce Corniche line. Recognized by the world over for high quality British motoring elegance, it is with good reason that these cars occupy spots in some of the most prestigious collections around the globe.
Sold new to S. W. Jack Drilling Co. of Indiana, PA, who only retained the car for a short time, this particular example has been is a long term dry climate car from Arizona and California almost since new, and has been in the hands of just two collectors for the last 35 years. On file are records for regular service work starting at 3,000 miles and continuing to the present. Importantly, the engine was comprehensively overhauled at Acme car service in Hayward, California, with 46,000 miles indicated. Other work performed in the last 3,000 includes a steering rack rebuild, a comprehensive A/C system service, select front suspension works, and within the last few hundred miles, an oil, filter, and fluid service. Now almost 35 years of age, the car demonstrates strong performance on the road and makes an elegant presentation on arrival.
Cosmetically, the car is substantially original, and remains very beautiful. The paintwork, which measures less than 10mil across all the panels, would appear to be original throughout, and the body panels remain straight and solid. The paint has an attractive and glossy sheen. Similarly, the brightwork is straight a shows only very minimal hazing, but almost no weathering at all. The glass, lenses, and emblems are excellent, and the car sits on beautiful factory wheels with nice hub caps and good tires. The Everflex top, tan in color to match the interior, is excellent in condition, and functions well.
The interior shows well with original leather on the front and rear seats, door panels, top boot, and dash, all of which is in very good to excellent condition. The dash and door cap wood has a deep reddish hue, and is very beautiful showing very little aging, and no cracks to the veneer. A wood rimmed Nardi steering wheel completes the elegant interior presentation.
The engine bay and underside are unmodified, original, and attractive.
A strong running and driving example, this Corniche will be well suited to the collector expecting to drive their Rolls Royce, occasionally or often. The engine is quite and pulls with good power, the brakes are effective and easy to modulate, the steering smooth and light to the touch, and the automatic transmission free of abrupt shifts or delays in engagement. The seating arrangement is posh and comfortable for long trips, as would be expected of a Rolls Royce.
This very well documented and thoroughly serviced Corniche is excellent choice for the motorcar enthusiast whom expects to actually enjoy his motorcar on the road. Included is the manual pack including the warranty card, records, and the spare tire with jack. Representing excellent value for its open-air motoring, and benefiting from its longtime dry climate custodianship, we feel this example among the most appealing on the market today.
