The most amazing of these iterations, the Porsche 930 Turbo, continues to reign as the one of the premier sports cars for both enthusiasts and collectors. Capable of astonishing performance even by today’s standards, the Porsche 930 Turbo set top speed records, acceleration records, and inspired legions of dedicated enthusiasts to seek this pinnacle offering as the ultimate performance road car.
History of this Porsche
This Porsche was delivered to the authorized Porsche dealer in Buffalo, NY on June 16, 1986, and delivered to the first owner, a resident of New York. The car was serviced regularly as noted in the owner’s manual service sections including dealer stampings as consecutive miles accumulated from 1986-1990 under original ownership. The last service under prior ownership is noted in October 1990 with 20,367 miles.
In 1993, with approximately 24,000 miles, the second and current owner, also a resident of the Buffalo, NY area, purchased the car. Service records accompanying the car date back to 1993 covering oil and filter changes as miles accumulated as well as a new battery in 2005, fan belt replacements, A/C services, installation of a new steering rack, and a new alternator in 2006. In 2007, the current owner moved to Solvang, CA where the car was documented on the California title at 41,506 miles. In 2022, a new fuel pump was installed, California emissions test performed and passed, and an oil change performed. In preparation for sale, a valve adjustment was done, valve cover gaskets replaced, and a new set of spark plugs installed.
Condition and Operation
Today this Porsche 911 Cabriolet presents in very good original condition featuring Guards Red paint applied over factory metal body panels. The paint has been digitally metered returning single digit numbers on all metal panels, indicative of factory applied original paint. Considering the originality of the finish, the paint is in very good condition throughout, benefiting from indoor storage and consummate care by the first and current owner. There is light oxidation in the cowl and a small rock ding near the front emblem, but otherwise the finish is quite nice considering nearly 40 years of age. The rubber and various black trim are in excellent condition throughout including the accordion front and rear bumper trim and bumper strips. The stance is perfectly positioned, resting on factory Fuchs wheels with factory satin black inserts, accented by semi-gloss anodized aluminum rims, correct for this era. A set of Dunlop SP Sport 9000 205/55 ZR16 tires are fitted at the front with Dunlop 225/50ZR16 mounted at the rear. The glass, lenses, and lighting are in excellent condition including the rear spoiler and black rubber trim surrounding the air intake, nicely finished with beautiful black Carrera script lettering. The black canvas power convertible top is believed to be original displaying only minor signs of age. When in the up position, the top fits properly and latches correctly. The flexible rear plastic window remains clear and folds properly into the rear pocket when the top is lowered. Unlike so many of these Cabriolets, it is rare to find one that has been properly maintained and cosmetically preserved while still enjoying relatively low miles covered by the two owners.
The black leather interior remains in excellent condition with materials and surfaces that are soft and supple to the touch with only minor areas of age evident upon closer examination. The leather seats show minimal use, the rear seating area appears to have been largely unused, and both the front and rear seat backs are in excellent condition. The rear carpeting has faded a bit and there is one small rubber (about ½” along the driver’s side door threshold gasket that has rubbed away, but other than these minor items, the interior is remarkably well-preserved. The interior door panels are in excellent condition and the center console houses the desirable 5-speed manual shifter fitted with a black shifter boot and black trim. The dashboard, switches, iconic black-dial instruments with orange needles, and analog controls are excellent and correct, consistent with the documented low miles. Even the top of the dashboard, often faded or dried from excessive sun exposure, reflects beautifully preserved correct material.
The engine compartment is representative of factory features and details consistent with this series Porsche. The engine is numbered with a correctly corresponding engine number for this series. The condition and components are stock in appearance and operation, appearing to be original factory equipment including the engine stickers, hardware, correct hoses, and Porsche intake assembly. The front storage compartment remains stock with correct carpet and a stamped steel date coded spare rim (8/86) wearing a full-sized tire. Underneath the car, the chassis displays evidence of use consistent with the miles, dry storage, and no indication of structural damage or compromise to the floor or major suspension components.
The car starts easily, idles well, and drives very well. The chassis, steering, and suspension are in very good order and the brakes operate properly in traffic and at highway speeds. The gearbox shifts as it should, and the clutch takes up properly with smooth operation, and the car tracks smoothly with good suspension and steering.
The car is accompanied by a fitted car cover, a black canvas top boot with storage case, a set of four floor mats, a set of tools and tool roll with Porsche branded fan belt, Porsche Guards Red touch up paint and package, a set of top latch handles, owner’s booklet with warranty booklet and red vinyl case, a set of repair gloves in the yellow plastic case, two sets of keys, and copies of selected service records dating back to 1993 while under current ownership.
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a low-mileage, attractive, factory Porsche 911 Cabriolet. 911s of all types have appreciated rapidly in recent years, with rare low mile original condition Cabriolet models seeing particularly strong market activity due in part to their performance, ease of use, and distinctive 911 design. Fast, agile, and ready to enjoy, this Porsche is poised to captivate collectors and enthusiasts just as it did nearly 40 years ago when it was first delivered.
