Description

1988 Ferrari 328 GTS
Rosso Corsa with Tan Leather
s/n ZFFXA20A0J0074585

One of the last Ferraris engineered and launched during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime, the 328 succeeded the highly popular 308 for the 1986 model year and offered an increased displacement V-8 and a myriad of detail improvements throughout. The mid-engined 328, offered in both hardtop (GTB) and Targa/Spider (GTS) forms, featured an upgraded 3.2-liter V-8 putting out 270 horsepower, thanks to a sophisticated Marelli electronic ignition system and the retained Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. The styling was freshened with new door handles and tidier and more modern treatment to the front and rear fascias both of which gained body color bumpers. The interior was significantly reworked as well, with new switch gear and a revised dashboard and door trims. Production of the 328 ended in the fall of 1989, marking the end of the transverse mid engine Ferraris, a line that began with the 246 Dino. Nowadays, 328s are revered for their blend of usability and comparable reliability, as well as the comparative ease of servicing since the engine does not need to be removed to perform a belt service.

This particular example is a two owner car having been sold new in by Ogner Motorcars of Simi Valley California to a mister Tuomey. The car was then acquired by its present owner in 2003 with 16,000 original miles. The car’s second and current owner maintains homes in both Florida and California and the car split its time in both locations.
The car’s paintwork shows well with minimal scratches and several small stone-chips befitting a vehicle of this vintage. Under the care of the second owner, the right rear quarter-panel was repainted due to a scratch in the paintwork. However, the respray was very well done and the work is practically imperceptible. The black top and targa-bar also show very well and remain in good condition. The car’s head and tail lights all work as expected and the car is generally sound electrically.

On the interior, the original tan leather is quite well preserved and still appears very clean. There is slight wear on the driver’s seat bolster but little to no evidence of use elsewhere on the interior. All interior lighting and electrics function as expected. The air conditioning, while operational, does not blow cold. Overall, the interior appears very clean and well-preserved in conjunction with the car’s exterior.

The engine compartment is tidy, and detailed to good standards. It is stock in appearance and shows minor aging to some painted components but presents extremely nicely overall. The trunk remains clean with its zippered cover still intact and in good condition. The front compartment is in good original condition with original plastic liner, spare, and mechanical components such as fan motors and windscreen washer reservoir. The car also retains its original books including supplements, tools, and jack with original jack bag.

The car runs and drives exceptionally well with great transaxle and power delivery. The cars suspension and brakes are also very strong and perform very highly. That said, the car is technically due for its next major service with the last documented service of this kind occurring in 2001.

Showing very well in its quintessential Ferrari Rosso Corsa on tan leather, this car represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-preserved and low-mileage 328 GTS. The car runs, drives and shows very nicely wearing its 26 years of age very well. In recent years, 328s have been enjoying significant appreciation due to their blend of relatively modern operation and performance with the attractive economics of classic cars. This particular car with its good driving condition and low-mileage presents itself as a unique investment opportunity.
