1988 Ferrari Testarossa
VIN ZFFSG17A6J0077712
White with all Black Leather Interior
Upon its introduction in late 1984, the Testarossa stunned the world with its avant garde styling. Long, low, and wide, the Testarossa appeared even more so thanks to the extensive use of horizontal slatting, a feature that would be replicated both on other Ferraris and on many other lesser cars. Yet beneath these striking features was a surprisingly organic and handsome form that remains as arresting today as it was twenty years ago. Motivated by a new four valve version of Ferrari’s horizontally opposed twelve cylinder engine that made 390hp, the car was quick and made fantastic noises, but was also very plush with leather almost everywhere, including on the rear shelf, headliner, and visors. The trunk is reasonably sized and the car very comfortable and easy to drive, making it an ideal way to cover long distances at high speeds in comfort. Many Testarossa owners use them regularly and there are many owners with cars having covered over 125,000 miles, and even an example with over 200,000 miles!
Sold new to Mr. Lawrence Hazlewood of La Jolla, California on May 22nd of 1988, then sold onward to its long-term second owner Mr. Peter Botta of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1991, via Isringhaussen Imports of Springfield, Illinois, this exquisitely cared for Testarossa has covered just 4,370 miles from new, and is absolutely as close to perfect as could possibly be, regardless of the fact it is now almost 30 years old.
Ordered with the very rare all black interior, which contrasts beautifully with the period-typical white exterior, this example is ideal for the perfection-minded collector looking for that “new in the wrapper” Ferrari experience. Save for one very minor touch up to the bottom of the front air dam, the exterior is in as-new, unmarked condition.
The interior is equally nice, confirming the wonderfully low mileage. The driver’s seat bolster remains as-new, and the dash is virtually free of shrinkage. In contrast to most Testarossas, which have a two-tone interior featuring dark brown dash leather, this example was optioned with the all black leather interior.
Both the engine bay and underside are beautiful and original in condition. The first oil and filter service was performed at 3,221 miles September 4th, 1990 by the selling dealer at that time in Springfield, Illinois, but we do not believe this example has ever had a major belt change service at any point.
Fresh from a comprehensive service ($6,100) at Autosport Designs in November of 2015, which included; new tires and a 4-wheel alignment, new hood struts, correction of non-opt headlights, stereo, slow window operation, intermittent door locks, emergency brake adjustment, this Testarossa currently runs and drives beautifully with the feel of a new car, but should the next owner wish to drive the car with regularity, a major belt change service should be performed based on time.
Complete with books, tools and select records, this highly collectable Testarossa is ready for concours showing or to be added to a lineup of low mileage investment grade late model Ferraris. As the active buying population transcends to the next generation, it is cars of the 1980s and 1990s which are seeing the most rapid appreciation in today’s marketplace. No-excuse, low mileage cars in impeccable condition are the examples which will be coveted most.
