1991 Ferrari Testarossa
s/n *ZFFSG17A3M0089532*, engine no. *26932*
Rosso Corsa with Tan leather Interior

Introduced at the Paris Auto Show in 1984, the Pininfarina designed Ferrari Testarossa stunned the world with its unprecedented styling and technical innovations. With the previous cooling challenges and cabin heat in the 512 Boxer, the Testarossa adopted radiators on the sides of the car, allowing for a full 12” of additional width and an increased wheelbase. Of course, the added room allowed for ample trunk space, but the real delight was the bold use of the enormous side openings, which appeared even more dramatic when accented by five horizontal ribs shielding the vast openings, giving the Testarossa a unique visual signature. Whatever controversy ensued over the looks were immediately settled by performance statistics and record sales.

Power came from a new four valve version of Ferrari’s horizontally opposed twelve cylinder engine rated at 390hp. Quick and capable at high speeds, the Testarossa was also well appointed with leather surfacing on the rear shelf, headliner, and visors. The ample trunk for mid-engine cars, comfortable seating position, and ease of controls, make it an ideal car for comfortable long distance high-speed drives. Testarossa owners are known for frequently using their cars, several examples of which have logged over 100k miles and a few now in excess of 200k.

This particular example is a three-owner car originally delivered to Oregon, and subsequently sold to the second and third owners in California. Purchased by the third and current owner with just 10,000 miles in 2002, it was given a 30k service at that time and shortly thereafter the flywheel and flex plate were replaced. The car was further serviced at Ferrari of Los Gatos that same year. In 2014, at 17,814 miles, Ferrari expert Patrick Ottis performed $1,400 worth of brake service on the car. In September 2017, having covered 18,320 miles, San Francisco Motorsports Service performed a $22,500 service which included the recommended timing belt service, replacing the cam seals and o-rings, changing all fluids and filters, installing a new water pump and seals, a new front crank seal, and accessory belts. At the same time, the AC system was recharged and a new AC compressor was installed. During this service, a new rotor was installed, both fuel pumps and four motor mounts were replaced, and all aged cooling system hoses, fuel, and heater hoses were removed and replaced.

Today with 18,425 miles showing, this properly preserved and maintained low mile Testarossa presents handsomely in quintessential Ferrari Rosso Corsa with sumptuous tan leather interior. The exterior of the car is very nice overall showing only minor blemishes on the lower front air dam and very few minor paint flaws on the otherwise glossy and well-preserved paint. The front of the car and door edges have been treated to a protective clear film. Overall the finish appears to have never received any sort of paint work from new, an impression which is further supported by the results from metering the paint. The factory wheels are in very good condition, and are essentially unmarked other than one paint chip on the left front wheel. The trim, and Testarossa signature black accents are all in excellent condition, including the emblems and script. Aside from a small chip in the windscreen, the glass, lighting, and lenses throughout the car remain in excellent condition as well, showing no significant chips or marks and appearing to be original equipment.

The car’s interior is in equally nice original condition, with few signs of aging or use. The leather is very clean and remains supple with very minimal wear throughout, showing some surface wear on the left bolster of the driver’s seat, typical of these cars. Seating cushion and support bolsters remain very nice as do all leather surfaces overall. The dash and black panels with rotating knobs all appear in very nice condition overall. There is slight shrinkage of the leather which is limited to the top of the instrument binnacle. The carpeting and kick plates all remain clean and devoid of any noticeable scuffs or stains, however the floor mats are showing light wear.

The engine compartment and trunk are in near new condition with no noticeable wear in either location. The trunk liners and carpet are very clean as are the various original accessories including the tool roll, jack and bag, spare light bulb holder, and washer reservoir. In the engine compartment, there is virtually no evidence of aging on the engine, assorted components, and engine bay. Cosmetically, the engine area is generally very clean and totally original in appearance. Clearly when the professional service work and timing belt was done, workmanship included proper cleaning and attention to detail, as evidenced by the fine presentation both under the hood and under the car. The underside of the chassis appears very clean, free from any structural damage, and while generally tidy in appearance, there are some cosmetic scuff marks and evidence of road use in a few areas.

The car starts instantly and idles with a nice mellow but throaty growl. Driving is both exciting and pleasant with progressive acceleration, great torque, and wonderful power on hand to delight even the most familiar performance drivers. The car is tractable and mild-mannered in town, and even reasonably quiet, but rewards the occupants with unmistakable 12-cylinder noise and thrust when revved out. Visibility is surprisingly good given the width of the car and the low stance. Seating position and easily reached controls make the car surprisingly usable – with the ease of driving, you quickly forget that you are in one of the most iconic and powerful modern Ferraris ever built. The car comes with a Ferrari tool set and jack in proper factory rolls, Schedoni leather manual pouch with books, and a file containing service records and owners notes.

With fresh comprehensive service, known history, and low mileage, this very desirable original and well-kept Ferrari Testarossa offers exceptional performance in a stunning and uniquely designed car that continues to draw crowds to this day. Ready for enjoyable driving or further preparation for shows and events, this exciting Ferrari offers an enthusiast a chance to experience the unique and captivating combination of ground-breaking design and legendary mid-engine 12 cylinder performance that only a Testarossa can deliver.
