General History

The last of the air-cooled 911s, the 993 represents the most refined iteration of the original Porsche formula that first appeared in 1963. The instrument layout, body design, and signature greenhouse are thematically unchanged from the original 911, blending the very best of the original 911 Porsche with the modern technology. The final Carrera model combined the clean 911 profile paired with the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter twin plug flat six and manual transmission, making it highly desirable today.

In addition to the heritage architecture and bespoke craftsmanship offered in the 993, it is impressively modern and capable, nearly 30 years after its introduction, the sophisticated multilink rear suspension and massive rear tires deliver fantastic grip and spirited acceleration. The 282hp 3.6 liter flat-6 in the S model combined with all-wheel drive and Limited Slip offers torquey high-performance power resulting in a very tractable car without sacrificing the most desirable traits of the original 911. The brakes are superb, and the robust 6-speed Porsche gearbox continues to delight drivers who prefer the manual gearbox over electronic paddles. Sophisticated and high performing, derived from the iconic 911, the 993 is the best of both worlds.

Various warranty services, fluid changes, and misc. services continued under his ownership. Mileage accrued consecutively according to service records with a 1998 invoice for new battery recorded with 10,012 miles and two new tires installed in June 1999 with 11,105 miles. The second owner moved from Illinois to Oregon in June 1999. At that time, 13,341 miles were indicated when title and registration were assigned to Bend, OR where it has remained over the past 24 years. The third owner purchased the car in 2021 with the car arriving in 2023 at Fantasy Junction, Emeryville, CA in preparation for sale.

While under prior long-term ownership, the owner, a professional woman with active participation as president of a PNW PCA club, enjoyed the car having regular services performed at Carrera Motors, Bend, OR including a 1999 replacement of the rear glass, new P Zero tires in 2001, wire harness warranty campaign work and windshield replacement in 2003, oil and filter changes, brake fluid flushes, and a new battery 2006. Regular interval services and oil changes continued as miles accrued. In 2016 with 81,071 miles, an 80k service was performed at Kendall, Bend, OR including new belts, spark plugs, fluids, and filters. Services continued in 2017 including four-wheel alignment, new Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires, and 4 new struts/shocks. In 2021 a new battery was installed, two new tires were installed, and the car was professionally detailed. The last service was performed in July 2022 with 84,305 miles, services included oil and filter change, new battery, AC system cleaned, and cabin air filters changed, brake fluid flushed, and engine air filter replaced.

General Condition

Today, this Porsche presents in excellent cosmetic condition with original factory Speed Yellow paint that has been properly preserved. The overall finish is glossy throughout, smooth, and generally quite nice for a car having travelled 84,000 miles. A digital paint meter has been used on all metal body panels returning single digit numbers (4-7 mls) which are consistent with factory applied paint. The condition is further supported by a clean Carfax free from accident reports. Both the front and rear bumper caps are in excellent condition showing little to no road wear, though underside surfaces are scuffed and scratched, these are only notable when viewed from the underside. The body is in excellent condition showing excellent factory door, trunk, and hood gaps, excellent fit along the front and rear bumpers, clear lenses, and clean, clear glass. The windshield and rear glass have been replaced however the side glass retains the original Sekurit markings. The painted silver Porsche wheels are in very nice condition with minor edge marks on two wheels. A set of Continental Extreme Contact Sport Plus tires show plenty of tread remaining, showing date codes from 2021 and 2016.

The original interior shows beautifully, particularly the smooth and supple black leather power adjustable and heated front seats. The driver’s side left seat bolster shows minor evidence of use, primarily to the lower portion of the bolster, and the driver’s seat fore/aft power cable will need to be adjusted or replaced, the overall interior is very nicely preserved. The door panels, including door sills and door pockets are all in very nice condition. The carpeting, headliner, and sun visors have been well maintained, and the sunroof operates smoothly when opened and seals properly when closed. The dashboard, clear contrasting instruments and center console are in excellent condition including the factory optional wood gear shift knob which wears the 6-speed indicator. The interior surfaces have been enjoyed but remain very well-preserved despite the passage of more than 25 years. Even the steering wheel remains in excellent condition.

The engine compartment and trunk are both tidy and remain as originally built with correct factory finishes and proper spec. service replacements installed as needed. The original engine is correct and properly maintained retaining correct Porsche parts, intake assembly, and manufacturer stamps, stickers, and labels. The front storage area retains the original materials and factory finishes including the collapsible red-rim spare tire, proper black molded components, factory treated metal parts, and newer battery which was installed in 2022.

The car starts instantly and has a great exhaust note. The motor provides a wonderful induction roar when pressed into service delivering surprisingly strong performance, even when compared against higher horsepower cars of later build. And while steady cruising at approximately 75 mph reveals a faintly audible hum, the world class suspension and all-wheel drive traction offers unparalleled 911 character, and the disc brakes are backed by a firm pedal. The chassis is composed, tight, and authentic, showing no evidence of structural compromise when inspecting the underside which reveals finishes and condition consistent with the clean Carfax, excellent finishes overall, and care offered by the long-term owner.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-maintained and handsomely optioned Porsche Carrera 4S. Representing one of the most desirable road cars from the past three decades, this Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe 4S is ready for enjoyable touring, spirited driving, and genuine admiration as the last of the great air-cooled manual transmission performance gems of the 20th century.
