General History

Building on the exceptional racing heritage of Aston Martin, the innovative design and luxury appointments, the consolidation of these ideals came to fruition in 2001 as the V12 Vanquish. Designed by Ian Callum and unveiled at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, the Vanquish replaced the discontinued Virage. Though a concept car in 2001, production was quickly established using state of the art technology including bonded carbon fiber and alloy composite structure developed in partnership with Lotus. Advanced independent suspension, 5.9L V12 engine, and 6-speed automated manual transmission with paddle shift, and 14” disc ABS brakes made for a very potent performance package.

The Vanquish was not only a beautifully composed design with elegant interior features and a stunning profile, it offered tremendous power and composure, a performance car with a graceful manner. Impressive 0-60 times of just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph made the Vanquish earn the Road & Track title of “The Ultimate Grand Tourer”. Offered to clientele specifically seeking performance excellence and bespoke interior amenities, the finely appointed interior included electronically controlled sport seats, premium audio, leather seating, and numerous refined interior features for this flagship Grand Touring performance car.

In addition to the performance history and fine craftsmanship, the Vanquish was featured in the James Bond 007 movie “Die Another Day”, considered to be one of the best Bond movies involving vehicle stunts and car chase scenes.

History of this Example

This Vanquish was purchased in 2003 by the same family that continues ownership today. At the time of purchase, the car had traveled 6,000 miles and was approximately one year old. Regular service at Aston Martin dealerships are documented by copies of service invoices dating back to the first 7,500-mile service in December 2003, then indicating 7,599 miles. Subsequent warranty services continued in 2004 with throttle pedal assembly, coolant hose clamp replacement, and gearbox oil cooler pipe orientation. Additional service and consistent mileage accumulation through 2007 included transmission oil seal replacement, new clutch cover, slave cylinder, and driveplate assembly, new spark plugs, and ignition coil replacement at 23,000 miles.

In 2010, with 30,000 miles indicated, new exhaust manifold gaskets were installed, a new exhaust manifold installed, coolant and hoses replaced, and cam gaskets replaced. In 2014, approximately $25,000 was spent rebuilding the engine as noted in the two-page service invoice form the Aston Martin specialty shop “Q’s Workshop” including outsourced precision engine machining. The same shop also replaced the radiator, several coolant hoses, and installed a new radiator fan module. Service invoices include regular fluid changes, oil and filter changes, and brake fluid flushes. Additionally, it is important to note that this car has benefited from all Aston Martin recommended transmission upgrades including magnetic sensor and larger clutch.

In April 2022, work was completed by Q’s Workshop including the installation of new ignition coils and boot assembly, new Aston Martin spark plugs, new coil over plug 3 pin connector, oil and filter change, a new drain plug, annual service, a new lower water pump bypass hose, and coolant added. In preparation for consignment, March 9, 2023, this car was serviced by Peninsula European including oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, rear differential fluid flush with LSD additive, and a new air filter. The radiator was removed, endcap leak repaired, and pressure tested, a new battery installed, and CA smog test performed.

The finish is quite nice throughout, showing excellent gloss on all exterior body panels. The car has been metered with a digital paint meter indicating lower single digits throughout the metal body’s surfaces indicative of factory paint. The finish is in excellent condition showing minor stone chips on the forward edge of the hood and front bumper cap. The sloping windshield, elegant design features, and stunning profile create a dramatic and memorable appearance worthy of these impressive first series Vanquish models. The glass, lighting, and lenses are in excellent condition as are the emblems and Aston Martin script. The body panels display excellent factory fit throughout with precision panel gaps and tight closures including the front and rear bumper caps. The inner strike surfaces and door jambs appear clean and well-maintained. The silver finished wheels are in excellent condition with good tread remaining on all four Michelin Pilot Sport tires dated 2010 and 2011.

The interior of the car is especially nice. The rich tobacco-color leather is supple and smooth with excellent surfacing, fine stitching, and no significant marks of note. Aston Martin number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place and in excellent condition. The original engine and engine compartment are clean and correct featuring alloy engine intake plenums, carbon fiber suspension tower arm, and properly finished structural components. The underside of the car is in excellent condition indicative of the miles indicated. There is no evidence of structural compromise to the chassis or any of the suspension components.

The car starts, drives, and shifts properly. The seating position offers ample comfort in the cockpit particularly for larger frame drivers. Power delivery is sharp and exhilarating from the V12 engine.
