Black with Black Leather Interior

The iconic Porsche 911 has become one of the most enduring sports cars of modern transportation. Built in a range of configurations over decades of development, Porsche changed the formula yet again, with the unveiling of the 996 model in 1998. Having very little in common with the former platform, the 996 featured all-new chassis and a surprising engine, stepping away from the previously air-cooled design, which had blessed every 911 since inception. This change was one of many needed to create a more refined, fuel efficient, and comfortable performance car. In fact, the entire platform was refined to a new level of performance and prestige. Porsche offered many versions of the new design but one of the most sought after models among enthusiasts was the C4S. Introduced in 2002, the C4S came with the wide-fender turbo look body, turbo spec. suspension, brakes, and sport exhaust. The 3.6 liter, 320 hp flat six was more than enough grunt to charm an $83,000 sticker price from enthusiasts all over the world. Best of all, the stunning refined and sleek body design signaled 911 traditions with new proportions and clarity setting the pace for all 911 models more than a decade later. Indeed, this series Porsche remains a favorite among enthusiasts seeking a pure 911 statement with the refinements and sporting characteristics of modern technology.

This example is a one-owner car, purchased new in Northern California where it has covered 47,000 miles in the hands of another icon of design, IDEO founder and chairman, David Kelley. Regarded as one of the pioneers of modern product design, Kelley and his firm have innovated design process, business culture, and creative practices throughout many disciplines. Having developed hundreds of products and featured on 60 minutes, Kelley continues his work today as a Stanford professor and speaker at TED Talks among other notable international events. Kelley purchased the car with particular regard for the design and a life-long appreciation for sports cars. No stranger to automotive adoration, Kelley has owned a range of sports cars over the years and frequently participates in car events in the Bay Area. His personal C4S has been regularly serviced, properly cared for, and maintained as one might expect from an enthusiast owner.

Kelley accepted delivery of the car from Carlsen Porsche, where it was serviced at 7,148 miles, 14,761, 28,209, 37,561 miles as noted and stamped in the owners service booklet provided with the car. The car was delivered with black leather interior, gloss black paint, sliding roof with tilt, full power front seats, power windows, dual front airbags and side airbags, vented and perforated disc brakes, and speed activated rear spoiler.

Additional exclusive options include storage compartment lid with Carrera logo, black mats with Porsche lettering, Porsche crests in headrests, and aluminum/leather shifter and brake handle. Additional cost options also included: Xenon headlamp package with built in fog lamps, oval chrome exhaust tips, metal door sills with insignias, and aluminum instrument dials, resulting in an $87,020.00 final sticker price.

In 2014, the car received professional installation of front and rear bumper caps and proper repaint of the new bumpers to improve the cosmetic outlook largely due to road chips and minor surface abrasions. The car is currently outfitted with Ray’s Engineering wheels but includes the original 18” Turbo Twist wheels with the purchase. In early 2016 (mileage 46,536) Mr. Kelley had the clutch replaced, the transmission serviced, and the drive belt replaced, along with general service work (receipt included with sale). Further service in 2016 at 47,426 included new motor mounts, a new water pump, cam sensor, and hose update kit (an important cooling upgrade on these engines). A clean Carfax has been run on the car revealing proper servicing intervals, and care, consistent with the owner records. Please note that the last entry on the Carfax shows lower miles. The owner recently purchased a 2015 Porsche Turbo from us, which he had serviced at the same tire store who installed tires on this car, resulting in a data entry error recording on this VIN.

Today after much thoughtful maintenance and service, the car presents very nicely as a handsome high quality driver. The paint shows minor evidence of use particularly around the lower corners where the car has encountered a few curbs, but overall has a very nice gloss and finish. The wheels are in very nice condition with one wheel showing 6” of bead edge curb rash. Michelin Pilot Sport tires are in very good condition with plenty of tread remaining to benefit the new owner. The front air dam has some scuffing along the corners and underside. The glass and all lighting and lenses are in excellent condition. Visually the car presents nicely for a low mile car having served the owner appropriately for regular use.

The interior has been very nicely maintained showing little to no soiling on the supple leather surfaces, excellent seat bolsters, and little to no evidence of use to the rear seats. Door panels are in excellent condition and carpeting shows only minor wear. The dash is in excellent condition with clean instruments, very nice steering wheel, beautiful center console and 6-speed gear selector. The sunroof and all windows function smoothly as do all instruments, switches, and indicator lights. The underside of the car is in good condition with no evidence of structural or floor-pan damage.

The car starts and drives beautifully, having had the benefit of more than $8,000.00 worth of documented service work in the past 18 months to ensure proper clutch and engine performance. The brakes are responsive and cornering exemplary due in part to the Michelin Pilot Sport tires and Ray’s Engineering Wheels.

Delivered to California brand new, this one-owner Porsche has been happily owned and cared for by premier design expert David Kelley. This road-ready manual 6-speed Porsche C4S is offered with a complete set of books, records of repairs and service history, and the original factory Turbo Twist wheels. This 996 is a stunning reminder of one of the best driving Porsche Carrera series cars available - a genuine and desirable manual shift car with performance heritage and unique ownership history, ready for its next fortunate owner.
