Description

1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe s/n 131638, engine no. P*732940* Sepia with Saddle Interior Ferdinand Porsche`s first road going model bearing his own name was the 356. Introduced in 1948, it underwent continuous development during the production run, which finally ended in 1965. The ultimate development of these years was the 356 C, which represented huge advances over initial models, including Porsches first street application of disc brakes. They were available in several configurations as both coupes and cabriolets, and with several motors. This particular car is a 356 C coupe, and is believed to be a matching numbers car. It was originally sold in Germany and was imported into the United States over 25 years ago. It is unrestored but has been maintained and refurbished as necessary and presents as a nice honest and largely original car in very good driver condition. Cosmetically, the car makes a strong impression. The paintwork is a high quality job and shows no significant wear or flaws. Close inspection reveals a handful of very small nicks about the car, and perhaps three minor dents in the doors and on one fender. The chrome is generally good, though the front over riders have some scratching to them. The remaining chrome has some minor pitting, and the wheels are excellent. They are fully chromed and have color crests on the hubcaps. The tires are period correct Michelin items. The window rubbers are great and undoubtedly have been replaced and the remaining rubber gasketing shows some minor cracking but remains serviceable. The glass and lenses are quite good showing light wear to the windscreen, and a crack to the left rear turn signal lens. The headlamps are fitted with period rock screens. The interior has seen some restoration and is in extremely good condition. The seats are recent Recaro items with adjustable lumbar support and are extremely comfortable. The rear seats have been reupholstered in matching material, which is a nice detail. The original unrestored seats are included with the car. The carpets are in excellent near new condition, suggesting that they have been replaced, and are of the correct material. The rubber floor mats are excellent and the remainder of the interior appears to be original. The door panels and headliner both exhibit some light to moderate patina but are a long way from needing replacement. The dashboard and gauges look original and have survived extremely well. The speedometer is metric and the clock still works and keeps good time. A desirable period Blaupunkt radio is fitted and works well. The engine compartment and trunk are both unrestored but tidy and well-kept. The trunk still has the correct plastic tray and the engine compartment shows signs of recent maintenance. The car drives very nicely and has clearly been maintained. It tracks straight and stops, goes and corners as it should. The underside is solid and basically rust-free. Portions of the floor under the pedals and part of the battery box have been replaced. The longitudinal are original and free from structural rust, as is the rest of the underside. This is an opportunity to acquire a straight and solid example of these rapidly appreciating cars. They have become increasingly difficult to find in good solid condition and are extremely usable and reliable classic cars. Thus, both die-hard Porsche enthusiasts and less experienced Porsche buyers are starting to realize the appeal of these cars and their values have increased significantly in the last few years.
