History of this Porsche

This Porsche was completed at Porsche in May 1986 and delivered to the first owner, a resident of California. According to the clean Carfax, by July 1990 the car had amassed 29,000 miles continuing with services and emissions inspections until it was sold to the next California owner in 1999. Miles accumulated during the four-year term of ownership until it was sold to the current California owner in May 2003 with 110,000 miles.

Copies of service records included with the car spanning back to 2003 (beginning with the current owner’s purchase) indicate regular services, maintenance, including body and paint work, upholstery work, and other cosmetic improvements including the fitting of a later series 993 964 power activated convertible top. Services of note include:

110,142 miles/May 2003 – major service, brake fluid flush, 4 Bilstein shocks, new front brake pads, replace dash fascia, replace cabriolet top, new top cables and electrical operation work.

2014 – Partial repaint including doors, rear fenders, rear bumper, and engine lid.

2017 – Reupholster front bucket seats and rear jump seats in leather, replace carpet, new door pockets, new weatherstrip and garnish molding (both doors), repair glovebox, recover B pillars, repair kick panels.

October 2018 – 930 tie rod kit installed, and torsion bar lubricated.

132,000 miles/2019 – Continental Extreme Contact 205.55ZR16 front and 225/50ZR16 rear tires installed.

136,894 miles/December 2020 – rebuild transmission with new clutch kit, adjust valves and retorque intake manifolds, new spark plugs, new cap and rotor, oil and filter, fuel filter, new dimmer switch, install Bosch H4 headlights, new speed sensors, install sleeve seal kit, adjust throttle linkage.

2021 – New windshield installed, new alternator and belt installed.

Condition and Operation

Today this Porsche 911 Cabriolet presents in very good overall condition. The car was repainted some years ago and in 2014 the car was refinished from the doors back matching the light blue metallic paint. The current owner reports these panels were resprayed for cosmetic improvement due to garage damage. The rubber and various black trim are in excellent condition throughout including the accordion front and rear bumper trim, bumper strips, and lower front air dam. The stance is nicely balanced on factory Fuchs wheels with matching metallic blue inserts, polished aluminum rims, black lug nuts, and black center caps with colored Porsche crests. A set of Continental Extreme Contact 205.55ZR16 front and 225/50ZR16 rear tires are mounted. The glass, lenses, and lighting are in excellent condition including the rear spoiler and black rubber trim surrounding the air intake, nicely finished with beautiful black Carrera script lettering. The later series blue canvas power convertible top features a lower rear top bow profile which gives the car a speedster-like profile when the top is in the up position. The top fits properly and latches correctly. The flexible rear plastic window remains clear and folds properly into the rear pocket when the top is lowered.

The interior, having benefited from reupholstery, was finished with correct blue leather for the seats. New carpet was installed, and other interior panels were also refinished eight years ago, however, the interior remains in excellent condition with materials and surfaces that are soft and supple to the touch. The interior door panels are in excellent condition and the center console houses the desirable 5-speed manual shifter fitted with a matching blue shifter boot and console. The dashboard fascia, switches, iconic black-dial instruments with orange needles, and analog controls are also in excellent condition. An Alpine stereo unit with an integrated single CD player is installed.

The engine compartment is representative of factory features and details consistent with this series Porsche. The engine is numbered with corresponding engine numbering consistent with this year and series 911. The condition and components are stock in appearance and operation, appearing to be original factory equipment including the engine stickers, hardware, correct hoses, and Porsche intake assembly. The air conditioning unit has been removed, though major AC components are included with the car as spare. The front storage compartment remains stock with correct carpet and a stamped steel space saver rim with collapsable tire. Underneath the car, the chassis displays evidence of use consistent with the miles, dry storage, and no indication of structural damage though both front corner metal folds show minor shop hoist compression to the flanged edges aft of the front suspension.

The car starts easily, idles well, and drives quite well. The chassis, steering, and suspension are in very good order and the brakes operate properly in traffic and at highway speeds. The gearbox shifts as it should, the clutch takes up properly with smooth operation, and the car tracks smoothly overall.

The car is accompanied by a fitted car cover, a blue canvas top boot, blue canvas center zippered tonneau cover, a set of four floor mats, removed air conditioning components, a spare set of black lug nuts, various assorted trim and mechanical parts, a dash pad cover, an owner’s manual with red plastic case, and copies of service invoices dating back to 2003.
