Description

2005 Maserati Quattroporte
VIN ZAMCE39A950015370
Bordeaux Pontevecchio with Cuoio Leather and Black Piping

Combining the engineering of the Ferrari-Maserati group and the styling of the legendary coachbuilder Pininfarina, the fifth generation Quattroporte is a world-class sports sedan with an inimitable Italian flair. Its specification demonstrates that it is the product sports car designers, while the styling and execution of the car make its Teutonic competitors look positively soulless. Its 400hp engine is derived from Ferrari’s excellent V8, and is a quad cam unit employing dry sump lubrication to allow the engine to be placed low in the chassis to keep the center of gravity near the ground, and to prevent oil starvation during cornering. The engine itself is placed entirely behind the front axles for optimum front to rear weight distribution, and the placement of the transmission at the rear in a transaxle unit also helps weight distribution. In fact, the car has 47% front and 53% rear weight distribution when equipped with the F1 style gearbox like this example. The car has met with critical acclaim, with journalists around the world marveling at the car’s performance, styling, detailing, and Italian soul.

This particular example is a heavily optioned car that was sold new in Florida, before being brought to the San Francisco Bay Area, where it has remained since being less than a year old when it had 2300 miles. The options include sunroof, 19” wheels, rear picnic tables, integrated phone, power rear seats, rear climate control, rear sunshade, heated/massaging front seats, grey brake calipers with red accents, and inlaid accents in the wood trim. The car has been regularly serviced at Ferrari and Maserati of San Francisco, to include the fitment of new tires 4500 miles ago, plus 12k and 6k services, and a new clutch 8500 miles ago.

Cosmetically, the car is nice, with a few signs of wear. The paintwork is very good throughout, with only two small scratches worth noting, one on the right rear fender, and one on the front bumper. There is almost no road rash in the common areas on the front of the car, though both left doors have been repainted, not quite to the standards as the remainder of the paintwork. The glass and lights are excellent, as is the trim. The wheels have light curb rash.

The interior is in very nice condition, with excellent dash, carpets, headliner, and wood. Leather covers just about every surface from the door panels to the center console to the seats and the entire dashboard. The seats are in very good shape, with some typical wear to the driver’s seat. The dashboard is excellent with no shrinkage, though there are a few nicks on some of the trim such as the left B-pillar cover and rear center console.

The trunk is as new with matching tan carpets, while the engine is as one would expect, being tidy, unmodified, and only lightly soiled. The position of the engine well behind the front axle is quite evident and hints at the car’s sporting intentions.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a well-maintained and very usable example of this sports sedan. It is heavily optioned and available at less than half of its new cost. It is a quintessentially Italian take on a segment of the market that has traditionally been dominated by the shamelessly efficient German approach, and as a result, this car appeals to the enthusiast looking for more than just a car.
