VIN: WP0ZZZ99ZDS798o64, PMNA Engine no. 1015
Flying Lizard Livery with Factory White Interior
For over half a century, Porsche has been a performance force to be reckoned with in nearly all forms of professional motorsports. In IMSA, the GTC championship series, which shares the headline events with the Prototype and GTLM fields, brings semi-professional and aspiring professional racers together, resulting in some of the most dynamic and competitive racing available today. The cars and drivers in this series distinguish themselves in part due to critical support from Porsche Motorsport and dedicated private engineering firms. The cars are extremely competitive but remain straightforward, exceedingly reliable, safe, and cost effective to operate, especially when compared against prototypes.
Originally built in 2013, and purchased new by the Flying Lizard Racing Team, this particular car contested the entire 2013 IMSA GTC season, with its lead driver Spencer Pumpelly receiving support from Nelson Canache, Madison Snow, and Brian Wong. The car placed 1st, twice at Lime Rock and 1st again at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta during the 2013 season. Later, in 2014, this chassis raced in the NASA 25 hours where it finished 1st in class and 2nd overall in 2015, driven by Spencer Trenery, Kelly Collins, Anthony Ward, Pierre Ehret, Tommy Sadler, and Tom Haacker. The Flying Lizard team is one of the most recognized and celebrated sports car teams in motorsports today, having achieved seven driver and team championships and competed in the 24 hours of Le Mans no less than eight times. This Porsche 997.2 GT3 Endurance Spec Racer remains ready to launch and assert the refined and capable performance lineage it represents both as a Porsche and a specialized member of the Flying Lizard Racing Team. Delivered in exceptionally fresh condition, this is an exceptional opportunity for a racing enthusiast to experience one of the finest contemporary track cars of modern racing.
The car has just been beautifully re-finished in Flying Lizard livery, showing beautiful paint and fully licensed graphics in excellent cosmetic condition. The overall finish is exactly as it competed in the 2013 IMSA championship and appears fresh and vibrant with virtually no evidence of road use. The cosmetics throughout the exterior visually arresting and exceptionally well detailed. Beautiful mechanical details surround the car including the intake vents, rear wing Gurney flap, Lexan windscreen, vented plastic side windows, and lightened mechanical parts, to name a few. The interior has been properly prepared for racing with excellent attention to detail, sophisticated but easy to read switches and warning lights, Momo steering wheel, and five point racing harness. While serious professional performance efforts have been made to build an exception racecar, the cosmetic fit, finish, and visual presentation of this particular example remains very impressive.
During 2015 the car received suspension corner updates to RSR specifications, which are wider, and makes the car easy to drive, especially when combined with the added 991-style KMP Sequential Shift System (itself a $12,000 addition). The paddle shifter not only shifts the car at superhuman speeds, it contains a built in system that instantly detects incorrect shifting, while simultaneously protecting the engine from catastrophic damage. Even an intermediate driver need not worry about an error in shifting judgment while driving this car at speed. Not only are dangerous mis-shifts detected and prevented, the car is set up to also detect aggressive slip angle, warning the driver with a flashing purple light when handling is approaching dangerous limits. These protective features are not only performance enhancements, which result in a very drivable racecar one can use to the edge of its limits, they also give the driver added confidence without the added worry of inflicting potentially costly damage to their car.
In November of 2015, Experts at BBI Autosport in Huntington Beach, California comprehensively rebuilt the engine at a total cost of $30,000.00. The engine was disassembled and rebuilt with late GT3 series parts, Porsche OEM pistons, new valves and springs, new water pump, new oil pump, rebuilt Pankle connecting rods, new GT3 RSR rod bearing set and intermediate shaft bearing set, GT3 Cup heat exchanger, and GT3 R chains. The engine was lightened and balanced and the crank was re-polished. Injectors were also cleaned and balanced and new Porsche head studs were used in the final assembly. The engine was then Porsche dyno tested, tuned, and tested after mapping the ECU and break-in. The engine has been run 17-18 hours in this configuration and remains today ready for use.
Recently, suspension components were addressed by Performance Shock in Sonoma, CA who disassembled the Ohlins TTX dampers, polishing heat marks off the shafts (shafts were straight), and checking the inner cylinders and canisters, which were found to be in good condition. Torrington bearings were cleaned and lubed, foam seal was added to rear lower bushings to prolong life, and the spring perch height was set.
Although immensely capable, this 997 GT3 is exceedingly easy to drive. In mere seconds you’re at triple digits under acceleration, eating up lap after lap of hungry tarmac, nailing the apex and exiting with your foot buried, grinning for more. This is just a slice of what it means to command the technology and performance of one of the most amazing and capable racing machines available today for competition minded enthusiasts. Blisteringly fast, technically brilliant, and blazing in Flying Lizard livery, this 2013 Porsche 997.2 GT3 Endurance Specification Racecar is a highly competitive E ticket ride, built for passionate drivers, awaiting your performance command.
Eligible for an expanding number of contemporary and historic racing venues, including HSR and the 24 Hour Classic at Daytona, this low-run time, highly competitive, and seriously sorted turnkey example is ready to present on-track it its iconic livery, or to be adorned as part of a collection of historically important modern racing cars.
The car comes with spares including wheel centering collars, the original sequential shift tower, good brake spares, and extra set of wheels and extra tires, and documentation supporting the recent work performed on the car.
